From the 1972 album, Machine Head.

One of the most iconic rock tracks of all time, here's my humble attempt.

I actually played real bass on this one, largely because I couldn't be arsed to program it.

Anyway, the cast is, in order of appearance;
  • Guitar Tokai Breezysound (Telecaster)
  • "Classic Rock Organ" (GarageBand)
  • Drummer (Kyle) (GarageBand)
  • Bass Guitar - Squier Jaguar
  • Vocals - two tracks, lead and backing (on the chorus

The key difference between Deep Purple and me is that whereas they're four highly talented and well rehearsed professional musicians playing together real time, mine is just me and my guitars and my phone, making the best of it.

Oh and it's over six minutes long.

I'm a fan of Kyle as well.

Great cover. Great job on the bass too. I guess you don't usually play bass? Now I expect you too.

I may cover this myself if the 1972 fest gets extended. I've had my own stupid arrangement of this partially worked out for years, and should probably get it out of my system.

Good choice from 72 Nick. It was on my possibles list but lower down as I lost my i-pad with Garageband a couple of years ago and replaced it with an Android tablet. Big mistake as there's no decent android alternative to Garageband so I'm struggling now to get decent keyboad sounds. Miss that classic rock organ !
Anyway, nice riffage and it's more fun to play a real bass. Great cover and nice that you extended it too !

Yes great effort at the DP classic.
If you played this in the guitar shop you would get hunted much like Stairway to Heaven 😀

So this really happened? All 6 minutes and 22 seconds of it.
Doing this song isn't a crime on the level of Diabolus in Musica. It's far worse :D Just kidding!

I like the fact that you've taken the pains of doing it like it's supposed to be done. Taking on the boots of Gillan, Blackmore and all! Kyle works a treat also as an Ian Paice substitute, but i think Kyle is playing it right-handed.

Only the big question remains: Did you use fingers for those doublestops? :)

I play the D string with pick between thumb and first finger and the G with middle finger. Both strings are played at the same time.

Ah, you're a hybrid picker. Me too!

Forgot to comment on the bass and now i noticed it's a JAGUAR bass. Sounds good and you should certainly play it more. Offsets are cool.
