Mother and Child Reunion
By Paul Simon
Released 1972

Recorded on Micro BR
Some tweaking in Audacity to subdue an annoying hum.
Mixed in GarageBand
Ted: Guitars, bass, and vocals
The organ sound is the SY-1 synthesizer triggered by a guitar – so technically there are three guitar parts here.

I learned this song a long time ago when I thought I should learn some familiar songs for occasions when I bring my guitar to, say, a campfire situation. Ultimately I learned that nobody wants me to bring a guitar to a campfire situation.

The song title comes from a menu at a Chinese restaurant: A dish with chicken and eggs.

I wanted to do this all on the Micro BR, but I wasn't happy with the drum possibilities.

I really like this song and it's a very cool cover and you are funny (as in the way you told about the learning to not bring the guitar to a campfire, ha)...

I didn't have false hope hitting play on this... good job!

Congrats.
This is not an easy song to sing around the campfire.
But you did it very very well, and I truly enjoyed it!
Thanks for sharing.

I just got what you did there.  :D

I know! This sounds better than any of the organ patches in GarageBand. All I did was play cowboy chords.

Thanks. It's not easy for me to sing anywhere. Those harmonies were particularly hard to nail. I lowered it from A to G, and maybe I should have gone lower than that. F? I just tried it in F. Much easier for me to sing there.

All these years I didn't know that. But it makes perfect sense.

Very faithful to the original, and I like how you kept the reggae feel to this - the instrumentation sounds great. I would never have guessed that the organ sound came from the SY-1! And I didn't notice any hum, so Audacity seems to work well on the hum reduction.

Well done!

Well done on this cover Ted. As several have mentioned this is not an easy song to sing but you handled it quite well!
