London folk-psych with some modern twists.

All done with Garageband & the MBR.

Two layers of Epi Casino, some Strat on the solo (needed something more glassy for cut-through), Ibanez bass plus: GB drums, backward drums, Oboe, Clarinet, and various keys and synths.

Quite a bit of historic reference amongst all the tripping :-)

the maid of cripplegate
the maid of cripplegate
knitting rainbows in the london rain
plague and fire have seen her tears
and my time machine going through the gears

the bishop's geese will take their coin
from murderer or saint
it's lawless here outside these walls
no guilds for all the trades
she has seen this city fall
a dozen times or more
and the zeppelin like a cloud of death
recite the psalm of war

so up the stairs to bedfordshire

the maid of cripplegate
the maid of cripplegate
knitting rainbows in the london rain
plague and fire have seen her tears
and my time machine going through the gears

I was once a blacksmith's lad
my name I do forget
And I wooed the maid of cripplegate
and tried to catch her breath
but her eyes were took to the scream and din
of bedlam's corridors
for she had seen this city fall
a dozen times or more

so up the stairs to bedfordshire

the maid of cripplegate
the maid of cripplegate
knitting rainbows in the london rain
plague and fire have seen her tears
my time machine's going through the gears

Psych-tastic! Love all the backwards bits, and your guitars cut right through. The lyrics are very evocative of the past, and I love the time-travel aspect from the narrator.

Perfect demonstration of English psych - I loved it.

Superb job, here! I'm loving the atmosphere of the song and this made me google to check 'Cripplegate' out...

Each instrument has put together so nicely, I can hear ghost of Beatles! Backward drums is icing on the cake!

Psychedelic to the hilt but constructed brilliantly and those lyrics stand alone as poetry, Tim. God only knows where you get those lines from. The production is stellar and love the Lennon -esque overall feel of the song. Excellent creativity presented here.

Brilliant song and beautifully put together.

Beatles yes, also XTC and even Tears for Fears, but the Greeny piece of the pie chart is the biggest by far.

Love that ending
