==============================

I wrote this 30 years ago when I was 29. There were a bunch of people killing other people. There were refugees.

By the way, this is one of the songs I wrote that re-used chords and melodies from "I Hope I Love Them" that I wrote a few years earlier (and recorded the other week).

I never noticed this before but, given what they mean to me internally, the two songs seem to fit together quite well.

At the time, I was thinking "I Hope I Love Them" was an unfinished "never gonna get used" song and I liked the chords and melodies, so I used them for another song that also ended up "never gonna get used".

Who Is My Neighbour
Words & Music AndyR
--------------------------------
When there's writing on the wall
I will know that it's my call
But until it comes
I'm keeping low
When they want someone to go
They will surely let me know
So until they call
I'm staying home
Once somebody asked who is my neighbour
And someone told a story in reply
It didn't seem to make the answer any clearer
So the question still gets asked by you and I

From the safety of my room
I have watched the gathering gloom
The most dismal tales of misery
In countries far and near
The problem seems quite clear
No-one seems to want to love their neighbour
And still the wise man asks who is my neighbour
But he just listens to the story with a sigh
If there's someone who needs help, who is suffering
His neighbours, it would seem, are you and I

listening for the second time... I am drawn straight away to the lyrics because it is a theme that my mother raised me with (and also the community that I grew up with).  She demonstrated it and spoke it and expected it of us.... as well we were recipients of others charity toward us...
I would guess that the humans are accountable to how we treat each other.

and often I don't live up to what I believe is right but I want to...
anyway the song is good and it makes you think!  That is good...

you can call me anything you like.  Just don't call me late for dinner

Very beautiful, very timely. Your vocal is outstanding and the songwriting has a timeless, classic quality. No embellishment needed - just purity of delivery and message. Fantastic.

Touching stuff.   I might need to think about this.

Its a shame that a lot of people aren't capable of it.  I use the word "people" advisedly.

A lovely song ... the lyrics are touching and bring to mind something which happened last year which ended up with me and my wife getting to know a neighbour of ours in her time of need.

Interesting to see this was written in 1992, as it's incredibly relevant to our times right now. Powerful words from a powerful voice.
