As I Am are a band comprising a bunch of multi-instrumentalist songwriters Max (Maxit), Marco, and Caecilia in Rome and me in London, plus additional lyrics and contributions from Mike in Louisiana. We are forming demos to hopefully oneday play live on a rooftop or public space in Rome (gotta dream big!).

We are writing as individuals and in pairs, and this one is a lyric by Caecilia with guitar and lead vocal by me. Caecilia has added piano (she's a classical pianist), Marco has added drums, and Max has added bass, vocals and orchestration. Although I forget who does what!

I loved this lyric straight away.

What if

If I close my eyes I can picture in my head
every single thing that I see from this bed
Even the stains on the old mirror of my wardrobe,
even the grain of the wood that it's made of
I know it all by heart

Is it a day or ages that I've been lying here
Poets know best how diving into tears can be so sweet
But there's no bottom to this sea

What if I go down, down, just a little bit more
just let me go down, down, just a little bit more

I lost my job, I know, but don't worry I'll find another soon,
for underpaid folk like us there's always room
At the moment my limbs are still too numb to move
Forgive me, believe me, oneday they'll want to
And I'm not falling apart

Friends say:
"Move, please, you must try", and I know that they don't lie
The hands of a clock go round and round for a
lifetime
Over and over again
but do they ever go anywhere?

Listened to this 4 times in a row -  a haunting beautiful piece of music and your vocal is oustanding.  I think I understand what the song is about...having worked for 40+ years in a very factual/technical/legal job, I'm not a poetic person so I don't always get the gist of lyrics like these. I hope your project is successful and you get to play in Rome !

Is just a piece of paper
To say a few lines
Make up my mind

this is wonderful music and lyrics...sounds outstanding as is...
The lyric is really superb and shows a depth of feeling and understanding not often heard so well explained.
This would make a great movie track for a scene or a tv show of some kind...
congratulations on a really good thing.... love the singing too...and the bass sounds great!!!

Those things we take for granted - when we're young and immature - will surely return to haunt us when we're old and insecure

The way the song begun made me think of Bond theme. The chorus pushes the song into other territories and at that point the overall mood of the song changes. I really like the way the arrangement builds. The introduction of additional instrumentation and the feeling of quiet despair. A memorable song that lives by its lyrics.

Very well done As I Am! Little by little I was pulled into the song as each new instrument entered. Great lyrics and Tim presented them vocally with the emotion that they called for. Beautiful songwriting and performances people! Yes, this should be broadcast live from the roof tops of Rome!
