Living in the Past, Jethro Tull cover for 1972 fest

One of my top choices for the '72 fest. I have previous when it comes to 5-4 time signature and I'm a sucker for flute so this song ticks a lot of boxes for me.

Now I don't have any resources that would get me a passable Tull flute track, so I went with the Mellotron flute.  Also we have scruffy guitar (telecaster) and a bunch of other stuff. To be fair it's done my head in over the last week or so. It's all come together today though with the guitar and vocal though. Now I'm happy with it.

The lyrics are actually particularly relevant to both this fest as well as to current world events

Overdrive - Distortion - Hyperactivity
Yesterdays shatter, tomorrows don't matter

Great version of JT's classic. Playing in odd time signatures is always a challenge (at least for me) but you are locked in excellently on that 5/4 metre. The Mellotron flute sounds fine to me too. Well done.

Amazing cover Nick.. that must have taken some work. Brilliant performance all round. Did you stand on one leg to do the flute part?

Oooh - that's tight. Beautifully performed and arranged. The mellotron works beautifully. This is a bloody complicated one to take on but you've absolutely nailed it! Brilliant.

I am a really big fan of Tull and Ian Anderson's solo music.... as a teen.. I loved "Bungle In the Jungle"  The only other band i can think of that use some similar timing is maybe Kansas...
anyway...to your version.... superb!

bravo!  It shows a level of ability very high....

Dude, ticks off all the boxes for me. Odd time signature funky enough to dance too, tremendous amounts of  quirk and some flute! Well done brother.
Rock on!

Gawd, I love Tull, especially this period of the band. I am gobsmacked at the production. So good.
