1972Fest (banner image missing)

1972 Fest Submission.

I admit I was quite excited to see this fest as I love that era of music very much.  I was about 12 and music on the radio was clearly coming into my focus.  Not that I hadn't been listening even much younger but it took on a new appeal.  I loved singing along to these songs or as I thought of them throughout my day.  I was a big whistler as well.
The other thing about the era was that the radio stations in and around Syracuse, NY played anything and everything.  They were not as specialized as even just a few years down the road.
This song is special.  I tried to record it LITLR but I could never get the guitar and vocal volumes correct so I finally recorded the guitar (singing along in my head) on the Zoom R24 stereo condenser mics.  Then I recorded a stereo main vocal and a mono backer and mixed them on Bandlab and Audacity and mastered on Landr.
I had already previously started on another song of this era with my son Markus playing along and Mike S gonna play guitar and maybe sing too...anyway i could see about 10 songs (lol...at least me trying) coming from me in this fest...

Oh yeah, I remember this one very well. Nice and spare arrangement with lots of clarity - your guitar and vocals sound great.

Well done!

Ironically, I was just working in my garage, and Doyle Bramhall's (I not II) version from one of  my mixes popped up. What a great song, and what a great version. I admit I was nervous approaching the bridge, but you pulled it off, ya bastard! Put a smile on my face, and it remains as I type.

Well done.

I was seven years old and there are a few songs which take me right back to that time. This one in particular has me back in the passenger seat of my dad's mkII Ford Cortina (no seat belt), raining, wipers going (and I think even at that age the irony wasn't lost on me).

It's a great choice of song and your straightforward performance of it is exquisite. Most enjoyable.

Love this, Stephen. Great simplistic version of the classic hit from the 70's. You handle the vocal very well indeed (better than I could) and just that strumming on the acoustic works excellently.

On another point - "It's gonna be a bright, bright, bright sunshiny day" --- Like hell it is -- bloody peeing down with rain here in Sydney LOL

First off I am always partial to Acoustic song well done on the playing. I think the icing on the cake was your vocal nice and clear  and open

Life is not about the number of Breathes you take, it is the amount of times your breathe is taken away

Wow, very different from your usual style. Simple arrangement with an outstanding confident and clear vocal. Well done !

I was -3 years old.
I only heard this song in probably 198x, with the Nescafe advert. I remember it made an impact!

Your cover really brought me happy memories! Cheers!

EDIT: and in 1988 I wasn't even allowed to drink coffee ;-)
