Messing about with a wee riff that reminded me of Can and ended up with this.

It is what it is!
They say they're gathered at the border
With their fingers on their triggers
Strutting their stuff
Enough is enough
But hey we're not much better
We're pushing all their buttons
What are we hoping for
Are we just itching for a fight

Everything's gonna be alright

Hey it's in all the papers
It's all over the news
But I just can't believe it
I don't know who's telling us the truth
It's like a game of poker
Who's gonna be the first to blink
Is it a house of cards
Or just a pack of lies

Everything's gonna be alright

Hey I think we've been here before
A different cast but the same old story
We're all just pawns on the board
Pushed around and told what to do

They tell us only what they want us to hear
They push the fear push the fear
Feeding us disinformation
Until we all believe
Tell the lie enough
And it becomes the truth
We are on the side of right
But where's the proof

Everything's gonna be alright

Hey I think we've been here before
A different cast but the same old story
Everything's Gonna Be Alright

Cool riff!

Agree with Can vibe...could be a lost track from PIL, too.

Excellent job, James!

I like this one a lot! Seems to drift some away from your usual enjoyable vibe but how true this theme is!  8)

Those things we take for granted - when we're young and immature - will surely return to haunt us when we're old and insecure

An anxious and interesting song.

True that.   It feels a bit like 1914 to me.

This is a cool song, ORH, and very high quality production wise.

I do hope you're right.

You have to wonder what's wrong with some people.

Naturally a timely song. I normally consume my news from various newspapers and not television, so I'm a bit removed from some of the instant daily fear-mongering of cable news - all the same, I do hope cooler heads prevail.

Also 1939...

Great song with lyrics that (unfortunately) fit the times. The melodies are catchy and the lyrics give food for thought. The moving guitar riff made me think of snakes slithering. The choruses didn't really sell the idea that "everything's gonna be allright", but that's alright too :D

Grabbed me straight away with that tense, groovy riff. I definitely get the Can vibe, it does remind me musically of something off of Egi Bamyasi. The lyrics are right on the nose and are nice and up front in the mix. Excellent stuff James
