Wonderfully done! I wish I could get harmonies to sound that good. Great recording and production. The built in mic on those little things is amazingly good.

A couple comments on your excellent description. This is the first I've ever heard of someone boosting vocals at 200Hz. I've always read that was an area that one would normally cut, because it can adversely affect clarity. Just interesting. Certainly works for you. Probably depends upon one's voice.

Double tracking the BG voices is a great idea. I have a weak, mellow voice, and should do that more often. A touch of chorus can help sometimes, too. I know it helps to cover my mistakes. LOL!

Great work!
There are only three kinds of drummers. Those who can count, and those who can't.

Right about that!  The idea here is that the 200hz boost is being used to fatten up a thin falsetto vocal. By the same reasoning you can pull out some 200hz on a track that's too fat and needs thining out.

These days I merely dabble at being old and wise.
But I swear, I used to absolutely excel at being young and stupid.

Excellent job here, especially with those harmony layers. You've set a bar for me to try to reach now I've had a go at some harmonies. This has a really good CSN&Y feel and I agree with Greeny about the tremelo - it's a great effect but it doesn't overpower. That's hard to do. Very well done indeed.

Cheers,

QuoteLook down at your fingers while forming the chords and those notes you are looking for are probably right there in front of you, part of the chord.

Thanks for this great tip on finding harmonies.   ;)

And the one on mixing.  I got the 600 with the idea of working the sliders, and I did a little on my first recording.  But I like the idea of matching those highs and lows on the computer while looking at the waveforms.  I think it can be done in Audacity.  :-\

Country Girl sounds GREAT.  Very amazing good work.
Let it be known, there is a fountain, that was not made, by the hands of men.

Great job Hooper!!  Sounds like you've worked really hard at getting these fantastic harmonies with tricky changes and all!!  Impressive!!

Seriously: How many hours did you put into this?

I just heard it for the first time in my iTunes. (I know, I keep saying that in all the NeilFest posts.)

Great recording, and a great performance.
