Stunning stuff! I like the contrast between peaceful start and louder middle part. Works fine!

I'm on my second listening...

Oh yeah... nice

I don't actually know much about Tool. I can hear the Black Sabbath references people are making...

But that bass - woah! Yes.
I don't often start with bass (I tend to write complete songs on acoustic guitar), but when I do, yes it's really surprising (in a good way) how it turns out.
That's given me an idea for something that's never crossed my mind before 8)

Anyways, love this... and on the timing issues, I was listening without out reading, and I was thinking how cool and dreamy it was sounding, and I was wondering how I could talk myself into performing a vocal like that!!
Oh well ::)

I actually quite like the heavy guitar up that loud - but I agree that it hides the drums a little here and there.
That might not actually worry me too much, but it all depends what vibe you're trying to achieve - like the vibe here.
I actually wonder whether mentioning Tool in the subject line gave folks a preconception of what it should sound like?
Me only knowing the band name but not what they sound like, I perhaps hear it with different ears?

Thanks for the feedback .. I believe the song idea and bass line might have come from a Guitar Learning site, but can't remember which one. (I've been trying to get better at guitar and been thru a couple of Guitar Learning sites )
A while back I started this song, but never finished it. I've been going thru my "tons" of unfinished songs and trying to finish a couple. I'm also trying to get better at starting and finishing songs .. And using different chord progressions
Will keep at it ..  ;D
Have a great day ..
