NeilFest 2009 Index

Arriving late to the NEILFEST is my incomplete version of Old King.

I arranged the drums (including the tricky 6/4 and 5/4 measures), recorded the bass, and vocals.  Now I need someone to step up to the plate and record either banjo (true to the original) or guitar.

The guitar tab is here.

The guitar starts after the first four hi-hat clicks.  The bass and drums come in three clicks after the guitar.

If you want to work with the raw tracks, the MicroBR BRO files are here along with a scanned track sheet.

UPDATE: If you'd like to hear the original song online, it's here on Grooveshark.

And I will reveal my MicroBR drum tricks for this song as soon as someone decides to do the guitar.

Update (June 15, 2009): My drum arrangement tricks are revealed here.

Update (June 16, 2009): The completed song with Satchwood on guitar is here.  The original MP3 has been removed from this post.

Ted, you did a great job here, clever drums and great vox. IMO the bass could be higher in the mix but you'll know I like my bass prominent.

Hope someone will put the requisite guitar and banjo over the top.

Cheers,

Nigel

Where are the banjo players?! Anyone?! Nice work Ted. Great vocals and harmonies. This deserves filling out. And I agree with Nigel that the bass could come up a bit. Cool!

Bluesberry

Any banjo, or guitar synth guys that can simulate banjo!!!!!!! Time to step up and help Ted out to polish this one to prefection.  Nice base track Ted.  Do it for Neil Young and Ted!!

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

Well I did provide a link to download all of the BRO files, so anyone who wants to can remix the whole thing.  But I'd consider taking the time to remix it myself if I had a banjoist or guitarist wanting to jump in.

BTW: I found the tab sort of useful, but not perfect.  I think NY did this on a guitar banjo (i.e. a six string banjo tuned like a drop-D guitar).

What I'm saying, guitarists, is Don't be intimidated by the banjo thing.

Sounds like a fun song - I've never heard this NY tune before!!

Great bass playing, singing, and drum arranging!!

I'd have to hear the original to get comfortable with adding any guitar.....

This sounds like it would be a lot of fun.  I think I have heard this at some time. But the original would be helpful for someone to fill in.

Stay tuned for an updated version with Satchwood on guitar--and, yes, I'll crank up the bass.
