I stand by my opinion but i might partially eat my words ???? This has additional stuff and could compliment the real deal in my setup. It's cheap especially after this discount code (see pic).

in the very early 80s I had one of the very first Rockman boxes that came out.  I loved it.  I plugged my headphones in and guitar and I could have a concert anywhere.  Eventually I was taking the head phone out and running it to the PA and playing with it.  It didn't sound as good that way though.  This box kept me interested in guitar for a long time.
A guy in the band I was in got the rack mount later version of it.  It sounded good too...
mine eventually went on the fritz.  By then I had moved onto playing bass alot so I didn't put much thought into guitar again until 2014, when through a series of "coincidences" I got back into playing again.
Tom Sholz is a genius.  Boston would never have been without him.  Having said that he wasn't an easy guy to work with though from everything I have read and heard.

Back in my storage unit in Arizona, I have a Yamaha DX100 – the same guts as the DX27 but with small-scale keys. I hang onto it mostly because people tell me it's valuable. I just checked: It's worth almost what I paid for it in the 1980s, so maybe I could should sell it if I ever am in the USA long enough to liquidate.

I almost bought one :) I ended up being too cheap and tried to bargain while someone else snapped it with the asking price. Probably a good thing as i got DX7 instead which was really the one i was after!

I think the smaller size is a bonus and it's a cool retro gadget. The sounds are suitably FM so why not take it into a good use? :)

BTW i ended up skipping the VST version of Rockman... I did some thorough testing and i didn't see any real reason to buy it. It wasn't as inspiring.

No matter how good any VST sounds, the least inspiring thing for me is making music with my computer. I'm a big fan of stand-alone devices that let me play music away from a screen.

Someone had a rockman for sale around here recently. Should I have grabbed it?  $200 Canadian.  That's what, 40 quid in real money?

If it's for an X100, it's an exceptionally good deal - as long as it works. I just did a search, and these units are selling for crazy money now.

Yes, those x100 are a hip thing again! Perhaps the 80's IS coming back :D Beware of the new Guitar Ace pedals though. They look similar, but sound completely different. Not necessarily bad, but they're a totally different thing.
