I went back to the future and got this "latest" and the greatest in direct guitar tones!
Now my 80's setup is complete. I already used this on the Love Doctor track. I was going to dwelve into 80's tone for a while, but i have a suspicion that
soon i'll be in the acoustic mood again...

Hmmm. I'm inspired.  I should dig mine out.

Cool!

I have one of these bad boys buried someplace - I'm going to try to dig it out.

I recommend you'll do that!  8) It is a cool thing!
Also a word of caution incase someone tries to buy one from you. They're valuable now. Around 500 usd / 450€!

I am surprised nobody has put those sounds in a pedal. I was sad when mine died.

Yes that's a shame. There's the Joe Satriani Amplitube (Boston 100) amp sim, but i don't think it sounds the same. But don't take my word for it as Satriani seems to think so (or does he really?) and people seem to enjoy it. I did hear a huge difference between the amp sim, and the real thing even from Youtube videos. And now that i've tested both the difference is way bigger. Also the most important thing for me that goes even above the SOUND is how it FEELS to play. And the real Rockman feels better for me.

I've hard a lot about these breaking down, and this was something that almost made me to avoid getting it. Then again i thought that i can't fix something i don't even have. It looks like they can be refurbished at around 100 usd, or something like that. So i was willing to gamble. Hopefully it lasts for some time at least.

That was truly a unique tone to Tom Scholz gear. I'm surprised it hasn't been aped somehow as well

That's interesting! Might be a cool thing, and i guess the Ik Multimedia Amplitube Satriani (with the Boston 100) is also, but didn't "feel" right for me. Overloud might be better...

Update: I wrote a long review about the plugin here, but ended up deleting it because i didn't feel like correcting all of my typing mistakes :) The short(ish) review goes like this: People a lot more knowledgeable than me have said it's fairly close. To _me_ it was miles away for many reasons. The playing dynamics, the way it acts (the whole compression thing), the sound and the ease of use(*. It was more comparable to Ik Multimedia Boston 100.

(* One could argue that using a plugin is easier. But if you have to spend ages to tweak the levels, the ampsim settings and even going by premade patches it didn't really offer instant happiness (The "funk" patch didn't offer any right kind of funk). With the real unit it's PLUG and PLAY.

I  also recorded some audio clips, but unfortunately i wiped the ampsim clips...

Would i be able to tell if someone recorded something with this plugin (or any other for that matter) and claimed it was Rockman? No... But that's not the point.
