I heard this a couple of days ago but didn't comment immediately.

Disclaimer: I have a weak spot for these 50's / earlier 60's songs.

Very interesting your approach. The knee slaps fill partially the middle of the audio spectre along with guitars, the bass in the bottom, your voice, and the celesta was a very good choice because it captures the high frequencies very well without being harsh at all. Overall a very balanced mix, without drums, and without loud guitars and with a sparse bass. Gives your voice and the celesta melody the spotlight they deserve.

I am wondering how your mixing software deals with lower voices + more present bass.

and the mixer seems to work just fine
Buddy Holly is part of my rock trilogy when I was a teenager (Buddy Holly Eddie Cochran Gene Vincent...)

I heard an interview of Paul McCartney where he said exactly the same people were his earliest influences!

I mostly just followed what the original sounded like, so the genius is due to Holly and the producer and cowriter (Norman Petty).  In fact, it sounds like the original doesn't even have guitar, but I decided to add that in at a somewhat lower than usual level.

It's really impressive what you've accomplished with your software mixmaster.

Everything sounds so clear in the mix.

And what a wonderful performance as well.

Well done my friend
