Nice song Greeny and loving that Tele sound. Being 40 myself this brings back happy childhood memories. Flash Harry's bass playing on this is perfection and the whole production is quality

I was going to say "Shave it off" as well but I see that ORH got there first! What a great song, this one has something special. It's got the usual Greeny trademark elements, good melody, nice chord sequence but this combination of great tune and slightly off the wall lyrics just gives it that something special. Your lyrics are very, very clever, you can weave complex words and images together without sounding pretentious and make us smile and really touch a nerve emotionally. Roy Harper meets Kevin Ayers. You really do have all the hallmarks of a great English singer songwriter.

And the production on this one is really clever, nice a subtle with great use of the stereo image. Superb bass playing as well that just supports the feel of the song so well. Great stuff.

Cheers,

Nigel

I was worried this track might be about my brother when I read the title.  I believe his wife secretly coats his back with Rogaine as he sleeps.  Must be some sort of weird fetish.

Another stellar track.  Your production always slays me.  Unusual electric tone that works really well here against the acoustic.  I'm curious how you grab such good acoustic tones, especially in your last Neil Young post.  What mic are you using?

Flash Harry, your playing always inspires...so much so that I am buying another (very modest) bass today.  Perusing the classifieds and having g.a.s. can prove to be a lethal combination.

Peace.

I don't own any mics, so it's all on the BR! The guitar on Heart of Gold is my all-solid mahogany Tanglewood. It really is a wonderful guitar to play. The B-Band pick-ups have a natural, organic tone just through a lead, without any need to mix the GTR/MIC inputs like I used to.

The acoustic on this one is just my Ibanez electro-acoustic straight into the BR with the 'Basscrnch' setting (adds some depth I find).

What I've found is that the sound of an acoustic guitar is really affected by what's going around it with the other instruments. Sometimes it sounds quite 'tinny' and harsh on it's own, but works with the warmth of the bass and telecaster really well. I'm learning all the time about tone and layering though... !

Damn, that's a shocker.  Don't part with that one down the road.  I have shied away from recording much acoustic because I haven't worked much on getting a good tone.  My piezo pickup has that tinny quack, which doesn't work well for a lot of applications.   I think the last time I did something where I enjoyed the tone was through this cheapo ART tube preamp, which warmed things up considerably (for a wedding march I posted a while back).  You've inspired me to twiddle this weekend should I find the time.

And speaking of time, I am now going to be late for work.  Yoicks!

Peace.
