In the vein of Matthew Sweet (which he also at times sounds alot like Neil Young)....

this is a song about an event in my life many years ago that was so powerful it's been etched into my memory and from time to time I still think about it.  A typical young man sees a beautiful young lady at a HS football game and there is this one incredible night of magic.  The thing is, it never could be repeated.....
I've had a good life with few regrets and I was never a big player with the ladies.  I was married to my first wife 20 years and now 20 again.  I like belonging to someone..it makes my heart content.  Still, this was an amazing evening and I thought it warranted a song.

I think this is a bit more "normal" of a song than i typically can do.

Shecter bass DI'd into the BR1600 and using one of the patches
4 guitar tracks....2 clean picking chords panned 25 left and right.... two slightly distorted guitars panned heavy left and right.
all guitar was my Les Paul using the patches in the BR
Drums are Alesis Nitro
vocals using the zoom mics into the BR1600....will post lyrics later.
Friday Night long ago, I was just a boy you know.  We met at the High School football game.  Your long blonde hair caught my eye (I was trying not to stare) .  You must have liked what you saw in me.  You asked me how I liked making out (pretty well I said)(at your sisters house).
We were making out, on your sisters couch, we were making out all night long. (I'll never be the same).  We were making out, it's all we thought about, driven by instincts we could not see.  (I'll never be the same).
(Friday night long ago , couldn't find repeat you know)  We tried to make it happen, (it never would work) over and over again we failed.  (Sometimes I still think of you what we might have been through) The magic of that night we never could repeat.  (can't help what might have been through).  We wanted to make out (together) we ended up striking out.  (we weren't making out ) Over and over we failed.  (we were makin out).  That nights fantasy ended clumsily.  (we were makin out I'll never forget).  (Fleetwood Mac was playin all night long)  Too young to fall in love.  (all night long)
The smell of pot, went through the room.  (Friday night) long ago.  The smell of pot went through the room (it's etched in my mind).  (but I was only thinking of you.)  Just one of those delightful memories.  (one night long ago)  I just remember how beautiful you were.  (what a kiss, what a kiss)  I just remember how your lips tasted.  (sometimes it still hurts inside, (we were making out )(when I think of the longing inside) and I can't quite get back to that place)  We were making out on your sisters couch.  When I close my eyes I see a better thought about I wanted something you wanted to see.  We could not see.

Sounds great Steve. You really bared your soul in this one. Very well crafted. Reminds a lot like  Iron horse. Neil young. Stellar job. Not familiar with Matthew Sweet. I'll have to check him out.

It's a great song Stephen. Obviously the lyrics are very special to you and it's nice you shared them in this song. I like the minimalistic sound, just guitar and drums. Sounds great.  :) :)It's like R.E.M and Neil young.

Yeas it's great to hear that refreshing honesty of lived experiences, not everyone can do it well in a song. Great song Steve, I love the twin lead vocal overlapping in places, most enjoyable.

I appreciate the opening blurb in your post as it makes the song much more personal. Really cools background vocals over this sixties-inspired tuneage.

Well I listened to this on my phone a couple days ago good thing I came back just realized that I did not comment sorry for the delay. Songs of the past are always  you know what they say dreams of yesterday are just memories of today
Well done rock on

Life is not about the number of Breathes you take, it is the amount of times your breathe is taken away

Great listen, Stephen, and cool that you can bare the soul like this.  I'm so repressed that I don't admit most of the days of my youth - even to myself!  ;)  Then again - I am English!

I even like the click of the jack plug (or whatever it was) at the end.  A hint of a door closing, or am I reading too much into it?
