Well yeah... this is wonderful. It really is soooo good. Guitar work is great, alot going on there bubbling along in the background, and what a platform for Hook to hit a home run with on those vocals. That is a fine vocal melody, it marries perfectly those cool guitars. Little nod to the drums as well, they are on the money and add a nice bit of bite to the arrangement.

Excellent collab from two amazing Songcrafters. Hook really gives the vocal some drama and welly, and the backer is absolutely immaculate. Total class. That solo stuff coming in at 2:30 is gorgeous. Yeah - I got the Andy Summers vibe on the rhythm guitar too. Brilliant stuff.

Bloody marvelous collaboration chaps. Great music, vocals, lyrics, great guitar solo and all topped with flawless production.  10 out of 10 from me!

I actually thought I had commented on this.
Just had it on full blast in my car.
Yes theres a slight police sound thing going om but I could swear this was Elvis Costello singing this.
Superb stuff  and the recording is so clean as well.
All the levels are spot on,as are the lyrics.
Guitars are excellent.
Love the rabbit hole bit in the lyrics.
Well done guys,top marks.

DarrenG / The Devil's Toupee

Amazing song guys. It has an infectious beat and those guitar melodies are brilliant. It definitely has a sound of "The Police", and "Elvis costello". The vocals are so good. My foot was tapping all the way through. Got a download.

I have 2 profiles on this site, (NOW COMBINED INTO ONE PROFILE PAGE)
One is a musical partnership with Keith Allen, ( we record songs as "The Devil's Toupee").
The 2nd one is for my other musical projects and collaborations. (DarrenG)
Thanks for listening.

Hook's vocals fit like a glove in this (although it's bit odd to hear his vocals on something other than uke prog-rock). It sounds like a lost eighties track (only one I would have been happy to listen to). Tasty outro playing, and I dig the ending.

Great track.

As Bob Ross used to say, its the happy little accidents.

Firstly, thank you all for all the kind comments. I know I have been a bit remis lately in comments, I have been listening, but not getting around to giving feedback, which is what makes this site so great. I have been saying this for a while, but will try harder.

So... This track actually was a problem child, and almost ended up in the bin. Hence I gave it the title rescue me!
Its a little bit complex, however worth telling. So, I tend to write off a drum loop, I pick one - it either inspires or not. If I get to a coherent track, I work back and redo the drum loop with fills etc. So I start with a single drum loop, and end with a set of drum loops wired together in the Br1600.

In this instance I selected a 133 bpm loop, loaded it - and continued as per normal. However! I did not realize (it took me a while to figure this out) that the loop was a 10 bar phrase, rather than the typical 4 or 8 bar phrase. The BR1600 automatically tried to fit the 133 10 bars into 12 bars - which works out as 6/5 * 133 = 159.6. Not 100% sure of the logic, but that is the net effect. So the machine runs at 133, the loop is time squashed to run at 159.6, meaning that the machine and what is being played does not align. Interestingly you can barely hear the time shift, it could be that its a 'good' ratio.

This has a couple of impacts, namely a) the timing is much quicker (159.6) b) you cannot substitute any other loops in or out as the bar starts don't align and c) the end of phrase rolls repeat every 10 bars and not the normal 8. Therefore the song starts at bar 5 of the loop! This has the effect (unintentionally I promise you), that the rolls are out of place, but I think end up interesting. Something which is reminiscent of Copland on drums. A happy accident! Oh, and while we are going through this, the BR1600 ran out of disk space during the recording!!!

I should add I was not thinking of the police when doing this, but am more than happy to be compared, I love the police.

Andy Summers is known for his use of a flanger/chorus sound, amongst everything else. However, I used a harmonic tremolo on this (EHX Mod 11 pedal), which does seem to add a phase/flange effect. I should add, the original intent was to fade out the track, but I really liked the trailing harmonic trem  :D

Given the power and dynamics of Hook's vocals, I added chorus, verb and quite a bit of compression - I'm real happy how they turned out in the mix. I've sat it a room with Hook belting out at full pelt, and its a force of nature. Watching a fellow Songcrafter work is a real privilege. Brother - you knocked this one out of the park and beyond.

What more can I say? Great, great track. Crazy how hook wrote the lyrics without even listening to the track, they feel so in sync with the feeling of track. Great police vibes going on with the guitar lines and an awesome solo to top it all off. A kind of magic...

Another hit from you my brothers.

Wow. Love the lyrics here. Really struck a note for me.

And the music and the whole production is just fab.

I'm a fan.
