For my contribution to the "SC Early Years Cover Fest", I chose this wonderful song composed by Geir and ORH:

https://songcrafters.org/forum/index.php?topic=2609.msg22656#msg22656

With Geir and ORH's permission, I simply added my take on ORH's vocal to the original instrumental track composed by Geir (since I do not have the skills to come even halfway close to how great his guitar playing is!)

I think this song sounds much better with the Scottish accent in the original version by ORH, but perhaps there are a few people who would not mind an alternate take with an American accent  ;D

I found this to be difficult to sing, partly because the words come pretty fast.  I first took the best of 10 takes, but wasn't totally satisfied.  Then I did 5 more takes and took the best of those, but still wasn't satisfied. I then mixed the best of 5 doubled with the best of 10 (the latter lowered -12 dB).  Then I felt my timing seemed slightly off.  I thought maybe there was a little too much latency in my USB 1.0 recording interface (or my brain?), so I shifted my vocals back by 15 ms, and finally felt it was the best I could do.  ORH is a hard act to follow!

I recorded with an AT4040 mic into Onyx BlackJack USB interface into Reaper and applied the CLA vocals plugin.

Very challenging song to tackle. Sounds good. Good playing and vocal. The CLA plug sounds good. I've had my eye that one

I was expecting Jane's Addiction. Very cool post. Wonderfully recorded and unfailingly positive. Beautiful.

I think you did a really good job, all that work you put in paid off. it sure is a great original track, but you gave it a fresh new twist here.

What a great spin on the idea of this fest! I think it hangs together really well and you did a great job, it sounds like this vocal was part of the original.

And the original is lovely, I really like Jim's lyrics over Geir's superb folky track. Nice work all round!

I loved the original, and this is a cool version : it is very different with your vocals indeed !

Life is not about the number of Breathes you take, it is the amount of times your breathe is taken away
