I posted a cover of this a couple years ago but felt I could do better on a total redo and include the lead guitar parts (including the interlude at 4:30).  I first heard this song on a TV special about the band who are from Northern Ireland and Scotland, and this was their breakout hit in 2004.  I love the dynamic changes (verses, power chorus, softer ending).  I used a combination of Reaper to process individual tracks and my own home-made software to mix and master.

Tracks:

1 Rhythm Guitar (verses) - Fender Mustang through CLA guitars plugin (clean amp)
2 Rhythm Guitars (chorus, panned L/R) - Fender Mustang through GTR plugin ("sweet on the edge" preset)
1 Lead Guitar - Fender Mustang through CLA guitars plugin (crunch amp)
2 Vocals (faint double in chorus) - AT4040 mic through CLA vocals plugin with 1/8th note delay
1 Keyboard (2nd and ending chorus) - Casio CT-X3000 "stereo strings" patch
1 Bass (midi, Sampletank P-bass patch)
1 Drums (midi, EZ Drummer)

I'm not familiar with this song or band but I know a good sound and mix when I hear one and you've got it here! The recording is very clear and the balance on the instruments and vocals are top notch. I'm glad you redid it other wise I might not have heard it. Nice work!

Excellent remixing and addition Doug
really well mixed, CLA plug ins for guitars and vocals are really great to make a clean job with a really ergonomic plug ins
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

A winner in my book. Great vocals and nice production. Those CLA plugins are good and can do wonders in the right hands (I tested the demos but as i wasn't 100% sure what they were doing ditched them ;) Oh well... the demos would have run out of time anyway).

There's a certain sense of honesty to your voice / vocals that i really like. It fits this song perfectly!

I love the music to the moon and back...that chugging grungy guitar is fantastic...
In addition I very much like your singing...very unique...I can't think of anyone I know of or heard that you sound like...completely original...
For me I like the music mixed louder into the vocals but not everyone does and this sounds great as is...
Also I enjoy reading about your process

Nice sounding tracks. I was considering those CLA plugs by Waves. So you do render your reaper track to mix them in you own software?

I don't think ive heard this song (although I recognize the band, they wrote Chasing Cars as well right?) but what I can say is this is a great track. You really nailed the 2000s rock sound in the production and performance. Those patches sound excellent and great job on the vocals.

Really nice work. I don't know the original but this is a very classy song. The production has worked really well, everything is very clear and nicely balanced, and the arrangement of the instruments is spot on. A really good listen, well done.
