Mimic Fest... (in the style of Thin Lizzy)

So way way back in about 82, Philo and the boys had just begun their American tour and like the story goes Gary Moore walked out on them due to the drink and drug problems in the band. So as far as I recall (it's all a bit cloudy now!) as a confident young 13 year old, odd as it seems I was on the cusp of replacing Gary in the band. At the audition, armed with my guitar and a bunch of new tunes to help the band it seemed I had got the gig. That was until Snowy White got chosen instead. All these years it still hurts, but here is one of the tunes I had written that got canned. I swear guv... :)

Then I woke up!   :(

I'm all washed up, I'm outta luck, I gotta get a life
Gotta hustle, it's a struggle just to stay alive,
I got no friends, I got nobody's gonna sympathise
I took to drinking just to get some sleep at night
There ain't no drug that's gonna pick me up off of the ground
And when I need someone to help me I can't hear a sound

Sometimes you gotta speed it up
Sometimes you gotta slow it down
Sometimes you gotta make a little space on the floor
Somewhere to put the wheels down

Got into trouble when I fell in with the wrong crowd
Don't ask for help off of nobody cause I'm too proud
If I don't change someday I know I will be doing time
And I'm running low on excuses with that girl of of mine
She's got my my number when she looked me straight into the eyes
It's wearing thin this time I gotta find a new disguise

Sometimes you gotta speed it up
Sometimes you gotta slow it down
Sometimes you gotta make a little space on the floor
Somewhere to put the wheels down

Sometimes your feeling all washed up
Sometimes your feeling all washed out
Sometimes it's hard to pick yourself off of the ground
Well there ain't no doubt

well, I dunno if you are serious or joking...if it was real or imaginary..and I don't know if you were good enough at 13 or not...but I know for a fact you could now...in fact you would do a rather great job singing in place of Phil...yeah...you sound like him alot...
I think lots of bands got derailed by substances that might have been better to wait until after the music...but then again...probably alot of great songs were written high also..but I know for a fact when I have a bit too much I don't play well...sloppy

Mike you know I am  a big fan...
this is great...download so I can admire it for a long time

This is fantastic. You completely nail that almost conversational delivery of Phil, plus the big riffs and the harmonised, melodic lead work. It really soars on that solo at about 2:30. Not only is it a convincing Thin Lizzy impersonation, it's a great song in its own right. I can tell a lot of work went into this, and it really pays off. Brilliant.

Ah, if only they had brought in that 13 year old kid, the Lizzy coulda been REALLY big............ ;D Pity they didn't, cos this is a really great rocker. Love that effected guitar sound and the way the rhythm work plays off against the drums. The solos are superb, they really suit the style and I think you did a great job on the vocals, they really got that Lizzy sound. The lyrical content is also right up the Lizzy street  ;)

Great mimicry but like Tim says, a superb song in its own right. Really enjoyed this. Took me back to seeing them live in 1977..... :o

Great song Mike and it really captures that Thin Lizzy sound, even down to the drums ! Great vocal and lovely guitar work.

Very cool, Mike - I'm no Thin Lizzy expert, but your vocal sounds a lot like Phil to me (especially in the verses), and those guitar harmonies really sound like Thin Lizzy's line up.

Great job!
