Ah, BB, (and others), possibly here to help a confused old fool - er, me. Got a couple of PMs over the last week, and one in particular has stumped me in the explanation of the board-structure of SC (or its predecessor in around 2009/10 etc). I seem to recall that myself, Bluesberry and a couple of others had the BR1200, and there was that guy on his own (again I'm prob wrong) with the BR1600 who recorded an album and had it released - was it about Laurel and Hardy? And that each recorder had its own board, and ALL the fun was on the small-BR whatever that was called? Sorry, not trying to be belittling, I'm just crap with specifics. So, BB, Admin, and the rest, add explanations here, and other Peeps and PM-ers can see the answers. Thanks in advance.

Welcome back Steve (a little belated from me), enjoy retirement! I retired four years ago, and I still don't have enough time for everything I want to do!

We have all moved on a bit since the early days. This place was very Boss BR focused, now it's much more open. So some people still just use the BR (Tim Green is a master of producing fab music on the MicroBR alone for example), whereas others have moved on. I used to just use the MicroBR but upgraded to a BR800 and now use that in combination with a DAW and mastering software on the PC. A lot of the newer folks don't use BR recorders at all, but they are all home recordists. Part of the reason is that the Boss BR line is now dead, no new models for a while now, so if we stuck to the BR alone then we wouldn't get any new members.

You are thinking of Bosko Schwarz and the Stan Laurels. He's still going strong (but not on SC any more), see here: https://thestanlaurels.com/news-press

Hi Steve and welcome back although I was myself away when you got back, but I'm back you're back and we're all back, and it's definitely the friendliest song-making community I have ever encountered.

Well, poo. First decent day in UK since sometime in 2023. Steve makes tentative foray into Man-Cave to see about unwrapping stuff/gear, and then some pillock on the portable radio mentions there could be snow this weekend! Sigh. Leave it another week and ruminate idly about investing in some heating apparatus this year. Back to my one-speaker laptop with the rattling screw.  :(

Did a second attempt through buffeting wind and eventually released one box from captivity – filled to brim with XLR cables and mono leads. B*ll*cks to this thinks I, it's breakfast time, which may last until April.

it is tough to get started again... but man... think of the rewards... you'll have saps like me self oogling over your songs... sitting in my underwear in a chair, 300 lbs with a a giant beer belly hanging over every note, every word... breakfast on....
seriously... it is hard to get back... in anything in life... be it exercise, music, what ever past loves we had that we have had go into hiding.  Hope you do though.. there is life, a little at least on the site.

Corné
I do have an electric bass and guitar, i do have an acoustic guitar. I even have a keyboard and a Roland drum set What I seem to miss is skills. So to cure my at least 40y frustration I dicovered my instrument being my voice. So I finaly had the nerve to take singing lessons and make my voice heared thanks to Songcrafters.

Thanks SteveM & Corné. What I am struggling with is the crap British weather hampering logistics, and also regretting some hasty decisions by SteveB regarding over-winter storage of music-making apparatus. The photo below doesn't really get to grips with scale, but the top part is what the basic Man-Cave was like a couple of years ago, and the bottom part is the current view wherein everything is triple-wrapped, boxed and blanketed. In order for me to get inside and do any unboxing I have to open two large doors to the elements, which at the moment are playing silly beggars, thus preventing me from enjoying musical solace and rejuvenation. And the weather forecast is predicting snow, so I am probably kiboshed for another week. Add to this dilemma the fact that my house laptop has been accidentally dropped twice, resulting in a near-useless machine (probably a decade old), that will have to be replaced. Let's keep keeping on, Peeps!

Thankfully, today I've been able to mount the first rescue missions into the Man-Cave and also secure some working-space for larger ops. If nothing else I can now get back to practising 'Little Brown Jug' with two hands – given, I now realise, that I can find the music stand which goes with the keyboard. Poo.

Unable to execute retrieval missions into ManCave today due to domestic commitments, but I recall mentioning and captioning a Clapton-style-Strat earlier in the thread. Well, I did some tweaking and ended with the neck of 2009 MIM Strat and other Fender pickups and hardware being assembled into a (for me), dream Strat. See photo.
Keith Richards once said that if you can walk past a guitar without picking it up, then you're not a musician. I've literally had to put this guitar into a cupboard a couple of times, otherwise I would get nothing else done.
