Here's my full take on Powderfinger. I added a little extra guitar and a simple solo in the middle. For the story behind it, go to the collabs page here:

https://songcrafters.org/community/post-your-mp3-collaborations-only/neilfest-powderfinger-collabortion-version/0/

Also, there's a stripped down version there and I'd love to hear some of you add guitars, harps, digeridoos, anything to give a bit of a different feel.

Cheers,

Nigel

Love, Love, Love the bass there Nigel. This one came together really well.  I really like the way this sounds now.  Its is a beauty.  As Neil Young would say, Its got the spook about it.  Good one, really good one.  I really like the way your voice sounds Nigel, very appealing tone you got.  Super nice guitar solo.  I can't say enough about this really, I love it.  That ending with the chorus is perfect.  You got to the soul of this song for sure.

I agree that this is a very busy song - It takes a few listens to catch it all. The vocal harmonies toward the end are the biggest treat for me - wicked cool, man!! Also like the bass playing, which builds up nice toward the end, too.

So many guitar pieces, too!! I scares me after I'm up to 6 or 7 bounces - 40 tracks, wow.

Peace,

Mark

I don't know what to say!!  I listened to the other one in collabs. and to the video  and this one.  I like them all,  but I do have to admit I think you have more feeling in your singing in the one in collabs.  Maybe because it was stripped down. It had so much feeling. Don't get me wrong this is great also.  I think I just like the other one the best.

This is wonderful, Nigel. Real class. I agree with all the comments praising your voice - it's got a great tone. That part when the harmony comes in is just magic. The guitars on this one definitely add something to the 'stripped' version - to my ears at least.

Neil-Fest has definitely brought out all the (largely) hidden talents on this forum. What a success!

Thanks for all the positive feedback. I really appreciate the feedback about the vocals, I was really uncertain about this one and you know what it's like when you are too close to a track. I actually can listen to this now and not feel too self-conscious.

Thanks, I use a simple little root/fifth/octave pattern a lot and it seemed to fit this one well. Glad you like it.

LOL! I just counted, there's at least 11 bounces on this, the track sheet got a bit messy. I'm very anally retentive so I love fiddling about with all the possibilities of the MBR. There's not a huge number of instruments on this (bass and five guitars, plus three tracks of vox). However, I recorded the two main jangly guitars in stereo just to give me a bit more depth to play with, and I also recorded the bass in stereo to make it a bit "bigger" in the mix (even though it's panned L20/R20 so it's mainly in the middle of the mix). So I make things more complicated than they need to be which is why I don't post a lot - everything takes me a long time!

Yup. Thanks for the kind words - glad you liked it.

That's very interesting Wiley. The basic track is the same - bass, jangly guitars and vox. However, I used a different mastering effect on this one, it was Mix Down. On the one in collabs I used Soft Compression because it made it feel a bit less busy and left more space for other stuff. I might try remastering this for fun to see if using Soft Comp makes a difference.

Thanks Greeny, appreciate that. I love this song so much I'm glad i did it some justice. And I agree - Neilfest has been a massive success. What a huge slew of great ideas it has thrown out!
