Another one from Max & me.

Max asked if there was any particular style I'd like, so I asked for something off the first Billy Joel album (Cold Spring Harbour). And Max came up with a wonderful piano track that would feel right at home on that album.

Just piano and vocal.

10pm on a rainy Saturday
Niagara Falls from the awnings once again
in a red velvet womb
something flickers in the gloom
a little film noir
a firmament of stars
at the picture palace tonight

the hush when the lights
dim out of sight
and the frames imprint upon
the screen of your eyes
you can lose yourself
you can lose the world
on a trip to anyplace
till the tears run down your face

at the picture palace late night movie show

a little film noir
a firmament of stars
at the picture palace tonight

the hush when the lights
dim out of sight
and the frames imprint upon
the screen of your eyes
you can lose yourself
you can lose the world
on a trip to anyplace
till the tears run down your face

everybody loves that sweet anticipation
in a red velvet womb
something flickers in the gloom
a little film noir
a firmament of stars
at the picture palace tonight

The piano playing draws the listener instantly into the song. When the vocals appear it's a done deal... This is a great song with great performances! The lyrics convey a feel and i like the choruses a lot. There's that 70's vibe to this song. Nothing extra needed as the stripped down arrangement with piano, vocals and backing vocs is all that's needed to tell this story.

Very special piece here. Love the clean guitar and the vocal harmony that tie it all together with the story. A fine collab!

Max and Greeny, you've locked down the Billy Joel vibe in this song! The piano is spot on and the lyric/vocals are right there with it. Well done on this piano and vocals goodness!

LoL Ken, I knew you all were a bunch of guitar maniacs down here but this ! jokes apart, I liked Tim's request (and I love the first Billy Joel album too), but it's been a challenge just to come near his style ...

Beautiful piano playing, wonderful lyrics, great storytelling and a lovely vocal performance. Perfect all round.

Nelson

Wow This would definitely fit that album
Max, outstanding work, you managed to create a beautiful piece of music while also capturing that phrenetic Billy Joel energy on the piano. amazing.

And Tim, what a beautifully visual lyric and your vocals, the icing on the cake, still leave me awestruck.

You guys knocked this one out of the park
