Hi everyone,

The video to this was already leaked on my 50th birthday thread (lol) but here is the finished track.

I am in the process of writing songs about my youth and growing up on quite a rough council estate and this is the 2nd one ive wrote. I have found the process to be very soothing and its really exorcised some ole demons. It was a bad part of my life looking back and its always haunted me in some ways and ive never been able to talk about it in the past but i found that writing these songs have really made a difference and although they hold a very bleak tale they make me realise just how lucky i was to not be seriously affected as were so many of my family and childhood friends.

This one means a lot to me as it has my best friend on lead guitar. We were in a band when we were kids and that's another side project i have been doing (Remastering and re recording our old songs) after finding a box of tapes when i moved a couple of years ago which is what got me back into this recording and playing after a near 30 year absence. Anyway sadly my best friend fell foul of the drugs culture that was very prevalent within my youth and community and sadly that broke the band up and our friendship but he has been clean for 5 years now though sadly not without some sad costs :( but it was great to reconnect with him as i loved this man like a brother all those years ago and sadly we lost him for years and he was such a talented guitarist and was a fledgling session musician.

Anyway theres the back story and i hope you enjoy the track and if you fancy a glimpse of two old fellas recording this track then just click the link ;)

Those things we take for granted - when we're young and immature - will surely return to haunt us when we're old and insecure

Love the guitar work and sounds on this one Dan. It's got a great rocky groove and some tasty (and very catchy) riffs in there. It's very nicely produced as well, although I can't really make out the lyrics so I'd be interested to see them, this sounds like a great project. I'm glad you were able to reconnect with an old friend in such a positive way, kudos to both of you.

Great song and nice back story. ( sounds like your friend lived that rock n roll lifestyle, glad he's ok, he is indeed an excellent guitarist)
Has that glam rock/ punk sound, I like the  lyrics and vocals. Catchy song.

I have 2 profiles on this site, (NOW COMBINED INTO ONE PROFILE PAGE)
One is a musical partnership with Keith Allen, ( we record songs as "The Devil's Toupee").
The 2nd one is for my other musical projects and collaborations. (DarrenG)
Thanks for listening.

That lead tone is outstanding. Love all the killer and melodic riffs flying around on this. Got a really early Blur feel (to my ears), with Mick Ronson on lead. Such a hooky chorus too. It's a fantastic song and performance. Really like the 'A State' play on words. And having spent my first 13 years on a council estate, I can relate. Excellent.
