Acoustic guitar, MiM Fender Strat, Ibanez bass, vocals, and GB piano, drums and strings. All recorded and mixed on the MBR.

A song about going back to your home town.

down on main street again
half a life passed by me
like a river to the sea
but it only feels like yesterday
deja vu
and skies of grey

only came back for a week or two
but it feels like home
and set in stone
familiarity can breed contempt
but not this time
as I let her ease my mind

i've been across this continent like a rover
uprooting when the walls start closing in
looking to be lost so warm and tender
against her skin
against her skin

down on main street again
it hasn't changed so much
but nothing stays the same
it only feels like yesterday
that she was watching
with eyes of rain

only came back for a week or two
but it feels like home
and set in stone
familiarity can breed contempt
but not this time
as I let her ease my mind

i've been across this continent like a rover
uprooting when the walls start closing in
looking to be lost so warm and tender
against her skin
against her skin

Great song.  I especially love the piano parts and the lyrics.  In the garage band piano is there some type of arpeggiator or automation you are using, or is that all played "live".  Also interesting that you are using garage band to generate sounds but MBR to record.  Have you tried recording into garage band recorder, and do you find MBR superior, or is it just long familiarity with MBR that makes it easier?

I'm playing three separate piano parts - chords plus separate notes all by hand. I don't like the arpeggiator much - it's a bit too predictable, and I want quite specific melodies these days. Normally I'd do it on a real piano now, but it's in another room and I'm lazy, lol. I have tried to record in Garageband, but I wasn't happy with it compared to the MBR. It probably is a familiarity and comfort thing, but I also didn't like the sound quality of the mic and iRig signal in GarageBand. So I generally make a backing track in GB then import it to 2 tracks on the MBR and layer up the guitars, bass and vocals from there.

Another great song, Tim with excellent vocals and cool production. Interesting to read your recording methods, using Garageband and that MBR thingy. Whatever or however - you always come up with quality recordings along with great songs including stellar incisive lyrics.

Oh my, there are so many beautiful things on Songcrafters!

another impressive production i really like the editing of the three piano tracks

And, in the same way as for the Ray Brookes song, another moving theme: the return to one's hometown...and this one reminds me (for the French speakers) of the song by beau dommage le retour du flaneur whose theme is identical: return to one's hometown after so many years

Bravo Tim

I concur with the others - great song! Dig the bendy bass and contrasting lead tones. Some kind of harmony I can't identify maybe between guitar fills and piano matched melodies padded with strings? No matter how, it sounds great! 8)

Those things we take for granted - when we're young and immature - will surely return to haunt us when we're old and insecure

Another killer track. I am loving the arrangement of the strings and horns, the little horn melodies really enhance the vocal and blend so well with it. Not only are you both Lennon and McCartney, you are also George Martin as well! The piano sounds great, I think you built it up really cleverly, and it sounds great. The vibrato lead is very effective as well, loved that too.

It's a lovely gentle and soulful track, superbly performed, wonderfully arranged and beautifully produced. Glad you are sticking with the MBR. An absolute delight all round.

Early Sunday morning sitting on the back porch with some coffee and listening to another outstanding Tim original life is good

I've always wanted to use "familiarity breeds contempt" in a song, but my ideas are so heavy handed. You set it up, and then let it blow away in the breeze.

Have you ever been accused of committing Bacharach?

I've lived so many places, I don't know where my home town is anymore. Returning to any of my former towns and cities never feels right. But when I return to Colorado, where I was born and lived until I was 11, something inside me says yes. And I don't even really know anyone in Colorado anymore. This song is like that quiet yes.
