When I was a kid, we seemed to always be going to Bristol Zoo and this song is attached to that memory.  A week or two back we went there with our daughter and the song came back to me.  So I've made a cover of it.  I've taken the liberty of coming up with some new lyrics here and there.

Guitars, eh?

(We're Going to the) Zoo
The kids are taking me to the zoo tomorrow, zoo tomorrow, zoo tomorrow
The kids are taking me to the zoo tomorrow and we can stay all day

[CH]
We're going to the zoo
How about you
You can come too
We're going to the zoo

See the politician lie their ass off
Wear sharp suits and lie their ass off
Eat the free food and lie their ass off
They will stay all day

Ch

We burned down the forest and killed the wildlife
Took the land and fucked the wildlife
Now we gotta go to the zoo to see them
We can stay all day

Ch

Look in their eyes and see them crying
Hate to see the sad face crying
Thinking of all their children dyin'
We can stay all day

Ch

We stayed all day and now I'm sleepy
Sitting in the car getting sleep- sleep- sleepy
We already home feeling sleepy
We've been there all day

What a hoot!!! Love this. It's like Peter, Paul & Mary meets The Sex Pistols and those added lyrics are great.

Bloody brilliant Nick.... this is class. A bit like the Sex Pistols. Fantastic lyrics... wasn't expecting the dark twist. Loads of energy in here.

Great stuff.

Well I wasn't expecting this. It's not only an inspired cover, the new lyrics are razor-sharp and spot on. Kind of like the Levellers meet PP&M.

I bloomin' loved it. What a way to start the day!!!!

I never thought of it before, but I was right in the middle of the Peter, Paul and Mary demographic for children's music while the music was being released. Never liked it. "Puff, the Magic Dragon" was played all the time when I was a kid – grade school music teachers loved that song in the 1960s. And by age 7, I was like, Yeah, I get it. The kid stopped believing in his stupid imaginary dragon. Boo fucking hoo.

This song is ton of fun, and at the same time dead serious. The vocal delivery is kind of flat and indifferent, rather than a raging punk delivery, which is a perfect contrast to the music, and underscores the banality of the decadence we have wrought. I love the noisy atmospheric guitar sounds which add to the chaos and theme of your new lyrics.

I am all in favor of subverting children's songs. (We should have Subversion Fest!)

There must be something in the water that ODH drinks. Like Ted said it's dead serious... and then some :D

Boo fucking hoo... Ted you always manage to crack me up...
Yes this is a fun and punkish cover.  This is better though as it isnt totally angry... it rocks... i could imagine the Kinks doing a cover of Nicks version here
