I always used to use a thin Jim Dunlop and play it upside down with the rough grip hitting the strings recently I have been using a coin  :P

And you replace your strings how often?  ;D
There are only three kinds of drummers. Those who can count, and those who can't.

Hey stop ganging up on me.......If it's good enough for Billy Gibbons..I'll give it a go!

And Brian May apparently, another coin guy. I use a pick for everything, even bass. Hardly fingers at all. I struggle to get a good recorded sound with finger-played bass, but I rarely play that style anyway.

Cheers,

Nigel

FRK - I'm with you on this one. Just never felt comfortable with one (possibly why I'm such a crap player!). Although I have to admit that I must own about 40 plecs/picks. Sometimes you've just gotta experiment! I do use them sometimes, on bass for instance. Also for 'feathering', for which I use 'Venom Thin'.

Plectra (is that the plural of plectrum) all the way for me.
I've tried using my fingers, but to no avail. I've also tried to grow my nails, but that didn't work either.
I strum way too hard, so I have to use thin picks (Dunlop nylon mostly). If I use anything more than medium thickness, the result is broken strings quicker than you can say Twang.

It's what comes of learning guitar during the UK punk years of the late 70's.

ON bass fingers all he way.  On guitar a light pick.  Use to thick and get pick tied. LOL  Have trouble with picks anyway.  But got to learn.!!
