Here's an entry by Tim and me for New Wave Fest. I did a backer for the fest that imagined The Edge playing with The Cure, and Tim came up with some great lyrics and a fab vocal performance. So here we have the "Boulevards of Sunday", which has to be one of my favourite things I have done on here.

The Boulevards of Sunday

all the broken faces
in dismembered places
shadows in the spaces
of what we used to be

on the Boulevards of Sunday

hiding in the hollow
strumming chords of sorrow
never beg or borrow
anything from me

on the Boulevards of Sunday

i'll meet you on the other side
i'll see on the darker side of love
i'll meet you on the other side of love
i'll meet you on the other side
I'll see you on the underside of love
oh of love

tell me something that I don't know
falling pianos - look out below
on the boulevards of sunday

shoulders jewelled by Belgian rain
somewhere in the wormholes of time again
on the boulevards of sunday

i'll meet you on the other side
i'll see you on the other side
i'll meet on the darker side of love
i'll meet you on the other side
I'll see you on the underside of love
oh of love

on the boulevards of sunday

i'll meet you on the other side
i'll see you on the other side
i'll meet on the other side of love
i'll meet you on the other side
I'll see you on the underside of love
oh of love

on the boulevards of sunday

Now the boring stuff:

All music played on my Bass VI. No guitars, keyboards or synths were harmed in the making of this.

The "Edge" guitar sound comes from the Bass VI going through a distortion pedal and a Stereo Memory Man, which Flash Harry kindly repaired for me. This is the 1980s version of the pedal that The Edge used to use, and I bought it after listening to "Boy" in 1980. It really is an awesome sounding thing.

Drums are BR800 onboard drums edited and re-programmed in the Rhythm Editor.

All recorded on the BR800, mixed in my DAW and mastered in Izotope Ozone.

Yes, I'm really hearing the cure and U2 a lot, a really impressive track you've composed. It has that great "80's" New Wave sound. I can't believe all the sounds were from your bass, that's amazing.
Some great vocals and lyrics from Tim.

Great collab, guys. Excellent production and definitely got that 80's new wave feel with a touch of The Cure.

Cracking song guys ! Definitely getting the Cure in this, and Robert Smith often plays a baritone. Some of the licks are very Edge-like too. Great listen !

I love what you get out of your bass, it shows that it's talent and not gear that counts.

Very new wave, I can see the big hair and eyeshadow from here.

It's incredible that this can be done to this very high standard by two blokes sitting miles apart, it sounds like a  very expensive recording session.

Inventive, on the money, great track, great lyrics, great delivery from you both.

Bravo.

Fabulous, I really shouldn't have listened as I have a lyric ready and hope to have a go at this today if I can. I think I have a similar melody to Tim but I think like most good backers the melody is there waiting to be found. Brilliant guys.

I had a quick glance at this while I was working last night, but no time listen to...

I listened to this three times in a row and the more I litened the more I liked it.

A bit dark backer with real good production. Great lyric and some catchy stuff. Excellent performance by both of you! I like this a lot.
