Another Max & Greeny composition.

Beautiful piano from Max (plus beats, guitar and synths) with me warbling all over it  ;D

Started out as a 'rap' project / idea, but the piano was too pretty not to be more melodic on the vocal.

A bit of real-life and a bit of Ray Liotta at the end of Goodfellas in the lyric.

Somewhere on the Outskirts

waiting for the rain to stop to mow their lawns
the lost in little boxes
who threw away their oars
or maybe they forgot what they were rowing for
somewhere on the outskirts

wax crayons melt on windowsills
like liquid rainbows for all your ills
the sisterhood of the rose wine -
the daytime soaps always make them cry

feel like a ghost on witness protection
neighbours either side but no connection
skimming through the classifieds for a dead-end job
air fresheners and pizza flyers
bank holidays with the grill on fire
red meat sacrifice to a pagan god

and something snaps inside
somewhere on the outskirts

feels like we're burning in a wicker man
on the cliff edge of a foreign land
the passing years reach a critical mass
somewhere on the outskirts

wax crayons melt on windowsills
like liquid rainbows for all your ills
the sisterhood of the rose wine -
the daytime soaps always make them cry

we don't know if the birds will sing
we don't know what the day will bring
we don't know much of anything
somewhere on the outskirts

we don't know if the birds will sing
we don't know what the day will bring
we don't know much of anything
somewhere on the outskirts

polish everything you thought you'd be
with a yellow duster and some Mr Sheen
a regal shine of dependency
somewhere on the outskirts

Wow. An absolute stunner. Love the backer from Max, lovely composing and arranging, and the change for the "feel like a ghost" section was so good it took my breath away. And the vocals.... simply sublime. The harmonies are fantastic and the vocal performance fits the music perfectly, not an easy thing to do. Speaking as someone who lives in a box on the outskirts ( ;)), the lyrics hit the nail right on the head. Superb writing.

Incredibly good work you two. A helluva listen.

What a great song and collaboration. That piano sounds lovely, some really nice melodies with it. The electronic drums give it a unique sound and yeah I could imagine some rapping to the music too lol. Maybe as an alternative version.
The lyrics are just great from " greeny" I'm starting to notice all your songs have great lyrics, and vocals of course.  Look forward to hearing another collab from you two.  Darren.
