There's many a truth been twisted, by prophets, scholars 'n fools
Beaten in the prison yard and bullied in the schools
Some truths are hung, drawn, quartered and slaughtered on the fly
Or hunted down and run to ground and changed into a lie

One thing we all remember
From the early days of youth
That life sometimes goes easier
If you don't speak all the truth
The whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Some truth blown out of proportion left barefaced and raw
Doped dazed and paraphrased in the ways of love and war
Some truths mollified and modified; defeated cheated chained
Or refused, confused, abused, misused, broken, raped and maimed

One thing we all remember
From the early days of youth
That life sometimes goes easier
If you don't speak all the truth
The whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Distorted by all governments and nailed to every cross
Been blamed for every treason, every reason, every cost

One thing we all remember
From the early days of youth
That life sometimes goes easier
If you don't speak all the truth
The whole truth and nothing but the truth.

oh Ray...tis a gorgeous thing this one...beautiful piano...simply elegant... and it matches your voice so nicely... singing sounds wonderful too...

now to the lyrics....ain't this the truth?  the chorus...

I read a story about a woman who was hiding Jews in Nazi Germany.  They were searching house to house.  So when they came to her house they asked her something to the effect of "are you hiding anyone here?".... To which she flung the door open, stepped out of the way, and said "see for yourself."
She told no lie.... they did not search...

I have learned I don't need to tell everyone everything... I try to tell no lies but I have learned to speak only when necessary more often....there is alot of wisdom in this song...good stuff..

Another wow for you Ray. Beautiful piano work with a wonderfully soulful vocal over the top. The guitar leads are really subtly done and really add some lovely touches to the emotional feel of this.

The lyrics really make this a very deep song with some wonderful imagery and wordplay. I loved the lines "Some truths mollified and modified; defeated cheated chained,  Or refused, confused, abused, misused, broken, raped and maimed". That's brilliant songwriting.

Another wonderful piece of music from you, very moving and a real joy to listen to.

Great song great keyboard work and I love the guitar tone at the chorus smooth as silk

Life is not about the number of Breathes you take, it is the amount of times your breathe is taken away

Excellent songwriting Ray! The piano is beautiful, your singing is brilliant and the mellow guitar is lovely. The lyric is very creative, poetic, and speaks the truth. I like how, in the 2nd verse, you've rhymed "raw" with it's reverse spelling "war" and that's just one of the wordsmithing jewels in this song of many. More than well done!

Ditto what everyone else says about this fine song! Also want to add that I loved the bass line (fret-less?) as well as the provocative progression.
