THE NEW MIX IS IN MY LAST MESSAGE ;) ......... Oops IN FACT IN THE 10th MESSAGE

after listening to Trevor's beautiful song (Thetworegs), recorded simply as voice and vocals, I asked him
QuoteI love Trevor's voice...when it starts, it's always a surprise to me
Can I try to add a Dobro or Weissenborn track?
kindly, he replied
QuoteYes of course that would be excellent JP

..and so here is my collaboration with the dobro, which is dedicated to Warren (WarpCanada), who wrote
QuoteI definitely want to hear this with MFJ's Dobro track!

...thanks Trevor

compelling adds to a compelling piece by Trevor...  I love the dobro on here JP... but to me it is mixed a bit to hot...it overshadows Trevs vocal and guitar a bit too much...it's not so offensive that I wouldn't listen to it.... but I think it would be that much better a little lower....
I almost never comment on mixes because I know there a lot of ways to do it and everyone's ear is different...
still i like the song alot and the dobro adds make it that much more interesting...

you're absolutely right, Stephen, I realise it when I listen now
..it's a fault of the person who mixes and who is both "judge and party", that's why in a collaboration, it would be good to be mixed by someone else, ...an option to be explored in SC, no?

... I would do the mix again, taking into account your very pertinent remark dear Stephen

..or may be ask a member of sc if he wants to do this with objective ears,...that would be very interesting...call for goodwill :)

Yes, too much haste!...I'm going to redo the mix. well, it's always interesting to redo a mix I'm going to redo it by putting the general volume of the dobro at a lower level...and redo some takes that are overlapping with the voice, beginner's mistake :D

This is a great song to start with and JP's dobro adds another dimension. I have to agree that the dobro is running a little hot so I'm looking forward to a remix, JP. Sometimes less is best in a mix but of course mixing is subjective. Occasionally I revisit old songs I have mixed years ago and wonder what the hell was I thinking LOL.

The Dobro sounds great JP. Like some others have pointed out, a bit too loud in the mix but I enjoy what you're doing. I especially dig that cascading line you play during the verses and the intro solo is great. Very cool collab and a great great song Mr Reg.

Thanks guys!

As I was saying to Ray (Ray Brookes) there are two main and unique interests on Songcrafters : the possibility to know authorized and competent technical advices and to be able to make extraordinary collaborations with musicians from all over the world !

Indeed my dobro grip is a bit too forward, with sometimes annoying overlaps between voice and dobro

It's a bit of a risk when you add a track to a song and do the mixing yourself (guilty egocentrism!)

By popular demand :) I'm going to review my entire dobro track and mix, Trevor's magnetic cahnson is worth it

And by the way Trevor has an exceptional rock voice.

Hello guys

first thanks all guys for your for your competent advice

I have therefore
- redid some of the dobro takes
- added some volume pedal in the chorus parts to have a "slow strings" effect
- lowered the volume of the Dobro
-removed all the dobro parts that overlapped the vocals
-redid the solo part and the ending
- removed the vocal effects on Trevor's voice (so beautiful that there was no need to add effects)

ouch! ..you can always do better of course in terms of mix, but me, no..
