I had not recognized the song!..the melody seems a little different from the original version of Jacques Brel ..but it's a very nice version that you made it

and then the lyrics are in English, by Mort Shuman, composer, American singer, born in Broklin has made a part of his career in France after 1968, before he was a composer for Elvis Presley (Litlle sister, his latest flame...etc)

If you don't know Jacque Brel, the great Belgian singer-songwriter, or if you like to listen to what he said about singing on stage in front of people

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhP3Q8DzQWg

here is the translation of what he said about singing on stage
Quoteinterview of Jacques Brel (archive of the National Institute of Audio-visual)
(...) - Jacques Brel is what you will you will sing on a stage one day
      -Oh, I think not...I really think not!... I don't plan to do my solemn communion again either!...it's normal to sing in the morning in your bathroom, because you're happy or because you're unhappy...but it's not normal at all to sing in front of people, you know...I've been singing for almost 20 years and before every singing session I threw up and I threw up with fear. ..because it makes you vomit the real fear and when I had two performances in the morning and one in the evening, I vomited 3 times...if you are not afraid, it means that you don't like it...when you get naked in front of a lady for the first time; a man who is not scared to death is not in love with the lady;

Love the original, and love this original take on it. Works brilliantly. What an inspired cover and performance!

I wasn't familiar with this song either but great rendition. The arrangement is very nice with the electric piano and acoustic sorta sound and you definitely put in a inspired vocal on here. I dig it!

Ferryman_1957

I of course know the wonderful SAHB version so this was quite a different take on it and IMO it works really well. Very nice feeling to this and it all sounds great. Nice work Jim.

JP, you need to see this version. Every Brit of a certain age is very familiar with this one:
