This is using the Toontrack EZ Keys Upright piano and the Native Instruments Strummed Acoustic 2 guitar program.  I do have a real Martin D 18 but I can't play it anymore.  I let my chops go too long without practicing.  Besides, the recording work is already done here, but the program is a PITA.  Other instruments are EZ Drummer, NI Session Strings Pro 2 and Trilian Bass.
Enjoy!
Empathy and sympathy never worked for me
till you came along and you stayed along through the darkness
So much time to complain & whine about this life of mine
until you fought the wrath, helped me clear a path to the light

I never thought much about where I've been
I only know I never want to be there again
Least not without you.

Home again beats alone again
cause I've got a special friend
Life's so good to me when you walk with me through the darkness
I know peacefullness and I'm greaving less because I've got the best
Your good company means so much to me at this time

Recalling how lost I felt most of the time
Before you released me.  Before you were mine
the days seemed to stand still there was not an end
to despair and hopelessness.  No chance to mend
so many deep wounds

Empathy and sympathy never worked for me
till you came along and you stayed along through the darkness

Through all the darkness on to all your light
A sense of elation makes everything right
Time will alone tell how long it will last
But nothing is gained holding on to the past
I've learned to move on

Hmmmm...just when your music was getting better and better (all I have heard is really good) you come up with this?  I don't know how you keep just breathing these out.... glorious...clean...interesting...superb...the detail...the piano is luscious as are the strings...interesting bass and drums.... excellent vocals...at times musically reminds me of Kansas...less the electric guitars...great stuff John

The songwriting is so strong. The interesting lyrics, the layers of instrumentation and especially, that chorus that really pops. Love that string sound you use as well and I can't believe that the bass and acoustic are virtual. Amazing sounds coming out of DAWs these days. Another great one John

Redler

Enjoyable listening, as always with your music! I've sure said ths before, but you've skill to create really fine atmospheres. Really fine work, John!

I always enjoy listening to your music, John. Always melodic and so well produced. Hey, if you're not gonna play that Martin D18 send it down here! LOL

Steve, Bluesberry, BerryPatch, Redler & Ray-Thanks so much!
Ray, I'll be keeping the Martin.  Sorry.  Sentimental value.  :)

Instrument choices are spot on IMHO.  I love the chord progression you have going here.  Your melody line (vocal) sits right where it should.  I enjoyed the song.

A lovely melodic piece with really sensitive lyrics, very nice John. Beautifully composed and arranged, I especially liked that middle section from around 2:26, very cleverly done and it really fits the feel of the track well.
