Thanks to Doug for allowing me to make this alternative version of his beautiful song, with a Lap steel backtrack.

Great additions here JP, very tasteful playing that adds a different feel to this cover. I really like what you did here, especially in the quieter sections. Bravo, great lap steel playing and also very nicely recorded.

That lap steel guitar sounds so cool, JP. Great song and great cover, guys.

The lap steel is a very nice addition - thanks JP - it really adds that "country flavor".

I attempted a remix here also since JP sent me the isolated lap steel track, so I could mix it in prior to the compressor and limiter I used on the master buss, hopefully to "glue" the mix better.  I also modulated the volume of the steel track, lowering in spots during the vocal (with occasional swells) and raising elsewhere.  I also removed my "keyboard fiddles" track in favor of JP's lap steel alone playing louder in the instrumental breaks and ending.  Let me know what y'all think.

Doug,

Your new mix with the Lap steel separate track I sent you is it seems to me...perfect, as I was telling Ray (RayBrookes) in his prequel to Dylan's It aint me Babe, ...we tend to overdo it with our favorite instrument and it's good that the mix is done by someone else
..you did well to remove your keyboadd fiddle (which I also liked in this pentatonic scale) in the solo part.

Congratulations Doug, it's finally this version that I would put on Youtube with your idea to use pictures of the "country I come from ;)

Great job from the both of you, it was an already great cover. Excellent slide additions JP. You're the slide guitar whisperer of Songcrafters! :)

To close the chapter (temporarily?) on "The Country I come from..." and as I liked the idea of Doug's video, I'm posting here the last remixed version of the song by Doug...with pictures of ...the country I come from in Savoie (France) ...thousands of km away from Doug's Country...

Thanks again dear Doug for this collaboration

Doug & JP, that's fantastic, the original song is cool, but this one is so much brighter and modern/alt-country to me. Fantastic !!! Bravi!!
