"Country music" from a 1990 album "Simple Life" made more popular after it was covered by the country superstar Kenny Chesney.  I only listen to country occasionally, but this one stuck in my head for a long time.

Info:
- Taylor GS Mini acoustic guitar recorded with AT2010 condenser mic (two tracks panned)
- Fender Mustang electric guitar though Waves GTR amp sim (during chorus, two tracks panned)
- Fender Mustang bass through Waves GTR amp sim
- Casio CT-X3000 keyboard ("fiddle" sound, two tracks playing slightly different riffs; not exact to original)
- Drums programmed with EZ Drummer
- Vocal recorded with AT2010 condenser mic (doubled during chorus)
- Everything recorded into Reaper via Onyx BlackJack 2x2 USB interface, Waves plugins

Lyrics: (by Mac McAnally)

In the town where I was raised
The clock ticks and the cattle graze
Time passed with amazing grace
Back where I come from

You can lie on a riverbank
Or paint your name on a water tank
Or miscount all the beers you drank
Back where I come from

Back where I come from
Where I'll be when it's said and done
And I'm proud as anyone
That's where I come from

We learned in the Sunday school
Who made the sun shine through
I know who made the moonshine, too
Back where I come from

Blue eyes on a Saturday night
Tanned legs in the broad daylight
TVs, they were black and white
Back where I come from

Back where I come from
Where I'll be when it's said and done
And I'm proud as anyone
That's where I come from

Some say it's a backward place
Narrow minds on a narrow wage
But I make it a point to say
That's where I come from

That's where I come from
Where I'll be when it's said and done
And I'm proud as anyone
That's where I come from

Back where I come from...

Hello

I didn't know this song so I listened to it
Kenny Cheysney and live there was a pedal steel guitar

I really like your version

I had fun adding a little lap stell like in the attached essay.

If it suits you, I'll make a complete psist it's easy for me.
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

That sounds very nice.  Attached here is a version with the "fiddle" sound removed, maybe that would give you more room to insert some nice sounds.

Edit: I redid the vocal and made some other tweaks - look for file labeled "2b" (fiddle version above or no fiddle version here)

Cool song. Very good version you did as well and nicely recorded. Neat also that you have both a Mustang guitar and bass, I've always loved that body shape.

This afternoon, I'm going to do version 3 ;D with the addition of Lap steel guitar...I like your slide show with "where you back come from" views.
...Doug, could I publish your version with Lap steel with a slide show of where I come from my self? ;)

Great performance, great video, and a great song. Just right for a Monday morning.

Looks like a lovely place to live.

Don't know the original but I really enjoyed this. Really good all round performance and recording, nice clocks at the beginning. I liked the version with JP's lap steel on it as well.

Lovely video as well, a great idea to make this personal to you. There was certainly black and white TV where I came from (I am that old), but no tanned legs  ;D
