Let's see if I did this correctly. I thought I'd get my feet wet in the whole festival thing and banged this one out in two days. Phil May, lead singer of the Pretty Things, died last year and I thought I'd pay tribute to their wonderful Psych classic, SF Sorrow. This is the first track off the album, which is arguably the first Rock Opera (released in 1968, ahead of Tommy). I started making a simple beat in Garageband then I put it on the BR 1200 and added the two acoustics, the bass, the handclaps and then my trusty Dano 12 string (which is an 11 string at the moment, damn you high g string). I let it sit for a day and then added vocals and the fuzzy lead and mellotron. Hope you enjoy...

This is awesome! I love the song (though I wasn't previously familiar with it) and your arrangement, performance, and production all sound very professional. Well done!

I've never really spent any time listening to The Pretty Things before. Your post makes me think that it's time that I did. I'll start with the S.F. Sorrow album.

My God, what a talent. What an ear for detail. And what a taste in music. This is one of the greatest songs of the 60's and psych genre, and I've listened to the original hundreds of times. I simply can't fathom how you've PERFECTLY recreated it. That punchy bass tone and playing alone is astounding. I always thought it was a sitar running through it - clearly not! It's the best cover I've ever heard on here!

For anyone not familiar with this album, dive in. It's amazing. There's a whole British psych style from 1968 that is marvellous. The Pretty Things, Tomorrow and Nirvana (the original ones) being amongst them. You see the landscape that Syd Barrett was emerging from.

It's also the first concept album. Because George Martin says Sgt Peppers wasn't.

Take a bow. This is incredible!

I've listened a few times. I always end up thinking I'm listening to the original!

Wow, this is brilliant Keith. Really, really good. I have to agree with Tim (Greeny) about what you've achieved here. The balance and recording of the instruments is spot on, the performance is fantastic and the final track sounds really polished and professional. You've handled things like the handclaps really well, they add to the track but aren't intrusive or too repetitive. The vocals and harmonies are excellent, and the bass sound and bass playing is superb!

I have to admit to my great shame that I didn't know this. I grew up loving English psychedelia but I only really know The Pretty Things from their 70s stuff (I saw them a couple of times around the Silk Torpedo era). I'm off to listen to the original now!

I'm not familiar with this song BerryPatch but I know good music and talent when I hear it and you definitely have it! The recording is so precise and clear. I love all the details here; such as the backing vox, harmonies and guitar. More than well done on all accounts!
