So I sent this in to my local radio station and... guess what? They played it last night along with a follow-up phone-in interview with yours truly. Kind of traditional in style, pretty upbeat in tone and self-explanatory lyrics. Hope you like it.

North Country Road © 2021 Johnny McAleer

I'm making my way on this north country road
With a lifetime of memories in mind as I go
Of the people I know who are so dear to me
And the places I've been to
I've been here before on this north country road
For part of the journey I've travelled alone
But the friends I have made help to lighten the load
And soon I'll be with them again
It hasn't been easy the whole of the way
And the future was never that clear
But wherever I've been and whatever I've done
This road I have always come back to
It's the road that will carry me home
It won't be so easy the rest of the way
And the future is never that clear
But wherever I go and whatever I do
This road I will always come back to
For this road it will carry me home
I'm still finding my way on this north country road
With a lifetime of memories in mind as I go
So why don't you join me on north country road
There's so much more to see on the way

This is very lovely Johnny. It's delicate, heartfelt and beautifully played and sung. I really like the "lead breaks" starting just before the two minute mark, and the harmonies at the end are sublime and a really clever way to lift the song at the end. Brilliant. I'm not surprised it got radio play, well done and well deserved.

Poignant, real, and so well performed. The guitar work is SO good - love the harmonies on those lead lines in the break, and that speed shift after 3 mins. And that ending - beautifully done!
