TRIBUTE TO GARRIK TYAS, a fiddler from Ontario

I'm going to tell you a nice story:

7 or 8 years ago, I was looking on the internet for a fiddle player who could have done some backing vocals to the fiddle of a Bob Dylan cover I did with my daughter Cecile, and I found Garrick Tyas.

Garrick Tyas is a violin player who used to live in Belleville, a Canadian city in Ontario ...6626 km away from my home in Savoie, France.
He had been kind enough to make me counter-songs on the violin which gave a "gypsy" color to our cover version.
You can listen to it HERE (for those who haven't heard it yet)

Yesterday was the anniversary of Garrick's death and quite by chance I discovered on the internet that he had played this tune (Ashokan Farewell) on the violin!

Also as a tribute to this departed friend I made a montage of his version (debut) and mine.

RIP Garrik

This is beautiful, JP. The video is fantastic (and poignant), but the music is even better. It seems you can play anything! Such a lovely, tender tribute. He looked like a proper free spirit.

Wonderful.

A lovely and fitting tribute JP. A lovely video as well, a lovely watch.

A beautiful tribute. Always sad when a musician passes and even harder when they are a friend.     Willie
