**I've sorted the clipping out and reloaded it - it was something to do with the acoustic preset on the BR80 - thanks to Ken for his help with this**

I've been fiddling around for a few days with various songs and this is possibly the best of the bunch. It's a rehash of one of my early ones and I'm quite shocked at how much I've mellowed  ;D 8) ::)

It's a 1 track press and go and mastered on the BR80 with the live preset (I didn't want it to sound pretty).

I wanna sing with

I wanna sing with Paul Weller
He's just so uber cool and I'll fake it cool
As we sing our song together
He'll sing it in my key
and he'll play the piano to accompany me,
thankfully

I wanna sing with Paul Weller
He's just so uber cool and I'll fake it cool
As I stand there in my slinky black dress
I won't be nervious
I won't be 2nd best, or 3rd best, or 4th best, or 5th best
(you see where I'm going here)

I wanna sing with Paul Weller
He's just so uber cool and I'll fake it cool
As we sing our song together
It'll be so much better with him
and not just me with my insecurities
(see if Paul Weller had written that
he'd have got it to rhyme)

I wanna sing with Paul Weller
He's just so uber cool and I'll fake it cool

Nicely done Hilary - Paul should be so lucky - A fine song!

One observation that others can verify maybe is the vocal breaking up (clipping?) on the right channel in spots? Might just be at my end, not sure?

Yep you are right - there's slight clipping on the right (I've just checked) - it's really hard for me to get any quiet time to play the piano in lockdown though (very frustrating) but I'll redo it at some point, thanks.

That's weird - there's no clipping in the original recording - so I'll redo it and upload it - thanks.

The WAV file shows no sign of clipping but if I export that WAV file to MP3 and reload it to Audacity there is clippding - it's beyond me I'm afraid  :D

Might try using normalize in Audacity. About -0.05 gets rid of the "red" and keeps it close to the limit for final mix.  If needing to add another track, use -1.0 for some added headroom. (Disclaimer, I've only learned these from trial and error but have had good results.)

If needing to get even more overall gain from the entire mix, do a default compression in Audacity and if necessary to again reduce clipping, do the -0.06 normalize to keep the gain but lose the clip.

PLEASE, if you have doubts as to this method, I'd love to hear your methods, test results, etc. as for me this all is an ongoing learning process!  :P

That's a pretty little song, H.

Yeah, I heard a couple of clipping spots too. When I record anything I have to ensure that the missus is not planning to turn on the washing machine as I get annoying clicks as it goes through the cycle.

I hadn't heard of Paul Weller.

I like this song because it has some honesty and anxiety and something real inside.

bandlab will do the same thing sometimes... and it goes away if i lower the track that is clipping or the master level... I am thinking that is all you have to do also... sometimes the BRs have some good compression going on that prevents clipping and then when you go to the daw it may not be on the daw unless you add it as an effect.... but you can generally accomplish the same thing with a bit of volume control....  I completely had to change my thinking about mixing levels and mastering since I have been on this site... I found out it's best to mix to about -6 to -4 db and then that gives room for compression as needed during mastering without getting a squashed sound... I currently use LANDR now for all my masters.... they do a super job and you can get 2 free masters a month.... or you can buy a subscription which is what I did because of the amount that I use it... I found out about LANDR here too because alot of people use it...

I've always liked the tone of your vocal. It has an immediate feel to it and a vulnerability that I like.
