This is me on vocals (times four or five), me on a nylon string guitar (tortured into sounding decidedly not acoustic via an amp simulator plugin), me whapping on the nylon guitar (the wood block sound) and a drum groove courtesy of GrooveAgentSE in Cubase.    I think perhaps this might have been a more "listenable" cover if I hadn't doubled the vocal, but the feeling I got here was of a bunch of drunken versions of me down at the bar singing heartily, and crying maybe a bit.

John Prine - Please Don't Bury Me
[Verse 1]

D                    G
Woke up this mornin, put on my slippers
D                         A
Walked in the kitchen and died
    D
And oh what a feeling
        G
When my soul went through the ceiling
    A                       D
And on up into heaven I did rise
       G
When I got there they did say
         D
"John it happened this ole way,
                                        A
You slipped upon the floor and hit your head"
    D                      G                 D
And all the angel say just before you passed away
                    A                   D
These were the very last words that you said

[Chorus]

G                         D
Please don't bury me down in the cold cold ground
                                               A
I'd rather have them cut me up and pass me all around
D                                     G                 D
Throw my brain in a hurricane and the blind can have my eyes
        G             D
And the deaf can take both my ears
   A                   D
If they don't mind the size

[Verse 2]

D                            G
Give my stomach to Milwaukee if they run out of beer
D
Put my socks in a cedar box,
A
just get them out of here
D
Venus De Milo can have my arms,
     G
look out I got your nose
                     D            A               D
Sell my heart to the junk man and give my love to rose

[Chorus]

G                         D
Please don't bury me down in that cold cold ground
                                               A
I'd rather have them cut me up and pass me all around
D                                     G                 D
Throw my brain in a hurricane and the blind can have my eyes
        G             D
And the deaf can take both my ears
   A                   D
if they don't mind the size

[Verse 3]

D                               G
Give my feet to the foot loose ,careless ,fancy free
D
Give my knees to the needy,
      A
don't pull that stuff on me
D
Hand me down my walkin cane,
       G
it's a sin to tell a lie
              D                  A           D
Send my mouth way down south and kiss my ass goodbye

[Chorus]

G                         D
Please don't bury me down in the cold cold ground
                                               A
I'd rather have them cut me up and pass me all around
D                                     G                 D
Throw my brain in a hurricane and the blind can have my eyes
        G             D
And the deaf can take both my ears
   A                   D
if they don't mind the size

listening again...your singing tone and style and sound remind me just a good bit of the guy from MOBY.... where he did that song (s) for the Bourne movies...that stuff I loved btw....

I guess missed the original JP version...but the lyrics are sure JP. Great writer. Always some humor.
Good effort here...thought the vocals were fine. Enjoyed the listen Warren!

Good job Warren, I enjoyed that... perfectly listenable. I like the slightly ad hoc feel of those doubled vocals. It sounds natural, spur of the moment... and I like that.

Life is not about the number of Breathes you take, it is the amount of times your breathe is taken away

Bluesberry

Sounds great...great lilt in your vocals....it really does sound live and picks up in the middle really nicely, just like live dynamics

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

I don't know the original but I enjoyed this cover Warren. I liked both versions, they both have a charm to them and your vox are sounding pretty good. The guitar sounds great as well and the whapping was also effective! There's a great feel to this and I think you should be pleased with the result. All four or five of you.... ;)
