New mix, new mastering of this song that I love so well
first of all for finger picking chords

and then for the story of this song
Less well known than the song Tears in Heaven (1992), it nevertheless has the same theme, her son Conor.Clapton had taken his son to the circus the day before his death.
The four-year-old fell from a 53rd floor window of a New York flat on March 20, 1991. Clapton, who arrived quickly after the accident1, remained prostrate for months2.
I have a kind of video (pretext) to put the song in .wave format HERE

To come back a little on the history of this song

In France, she was in the album Pilgrim de Clapton, an album that was quite criticized by some "blues integrists" ( as Dylan had been criticized by folk integrists when he switched to the electric guitar :D :D) and then he was reproached for using a lot the drum machine in this album .

for me it's my favourite record, less blues, more funk, more pop with very nice ballads...(I had done an instrumental reprise of River of tears )

I don't think I had heard this song before. This is a great song... I even prefer it to Tears in Heaven, but maybe that's because I have heard that one so many times now. Lovely tune, very well done JP.

Thank you Mike, I have always been impressed by the awful drama in Clapton's life: his son falling from the 53rd floor of a New York flat,
Clapton tells in his autobiography:
"...The day before the drama, Eric takes his son to the circus. It's the first time he goes out alone with him. He loved it. For the first time he felt like a father. The guitarist was sober again by then. He told Connor's mother that for the upcoming holiday he wanted to take care of his son by himself. Lori, the boy's mother, is an admirer of the guitarist.

Eric goes to sleep at the Mayfair Regent on Park Avenue. He wants to take his son to the Central Park Zoo the next day. The phone rings around 11 o'clock. Eric picks it up. Lori is hysterical on the other end of the phone. Connor is dead, she tells him.

Connor and his mother live about ten blocks away. Eric runs up Park Avenue. They tell him the circumstances of the tragedy.

"The main living room had a floor-to-ceiling bay on one side that could be tilted to clean it," Eric says in his autobiography. But there were no handrails in front of the windows, because the building was private and did not meet the usual building standards. That morning, the superintendent cleaned the windows and left them open temporarily. Conor ran into the flat, playing hide-and-seek with his nanny, and while Lori was occupied by the concierge who warned her of the danger, he simply ran into the room and went through the window.
After this drama Clapton remained prostrate for several months.
This story, infinitely tragic, shows that life is indeed ephemeral. That is why we must enjoy every moment with those we love while they are still here. Because we never know when they will leave us.

I never knew all those details JP...tragic and sad... I am sure the very hardest part is those involved trying to live with forgiving themselves for their lapse in safety protocols.... gosh... I raised 3 kids and have 3 grands.... and I was and am a pretty lenient parent but I also had my eyes on them like a hawk when danger was near....  but I am not sure I could endure such pain.... as this.... Eric Clapton is a very special musician....

JP, I've not heard this Clapton song before but I know the tragic story from Tears of Heaven. This is a lovely but very sad song and it rivals or exceeds Tears of Heaven to me. Well done on the music and vocals!

Indeed this song does not appear in the disc, the DVD, or even in the song book of the umplugged's scores.

...and yet, it seems Clapton did play it in this show as shown in this rare video on YT

Haven't heard this one in a spell, and you do a wonderful rendering here. I'm not sure if it's partially your accent, but you really convey the melancholy in this tune.

That biography was hard read for me. He could be such an ass at times, but that entire section on Connor was so heart-wrenching.
