I hope you all had a very special, blessed and enjoyable Christmas in whatever faith you practice, and wish you all a happier new year than the one we've just been through.  I sincerely pray that 2021 will bring us peace (finally) and fulfillment and health.

I thought long and hard about posting this next song.  It is my newest and it's a bit political.  I try not to get political in my music, but sometimes I just can't hold it in.  I will say that after analyzing the lyrics I can safely say that it does have some universal appeal (unusual for a political song).  No matter whether you're left or right, black or white, male or female, young or old, I think everybody seems to argue that their freedom is being threatened by somebody somewhere. The song tag for it on my Soundclick page says "The love of freedom is becoming a bad habit you must learn to break".  So I decided to post it because I think, in one way or the other, everybody here can relate.

I DO have my political opinions, like everybody else, but I'm not saying what they are.  Not so much that I'm afraid, but why create controversy if you don't have to.

That being said, I hope you can enjoy "Nasty Habit".

 :) John B.
I have a nasty habit.
The kind that does not serve me well
among the savage natives in the town.
I can become annoying
when I request plain logic
from many minds I deal with.  Common ground.

Is it because I seek the ones
who think the way I do?
Looking for some solace
in the midst of such insanity
Not surprising is their nerve
to want to change your world
They show no more compassion than a snake

I have a nasty habit
the kind that does not serve me well
among the "intellectuals" in the town.
Although they do not scare me
their tones can be so frightening
whenever I've the nerve to hang around

Is it because they cannot let
the trolls get in their way?
They seek to boost to power
the very ones who have the least to give
Not surprising is their nerve
to try to change the world
They show no more emotion than  a leech.

As the time goes on they will want me gone
Out of their way. Sacrificed.
Thrown away like trash
You have no rights

I have something they insist to take away
A gift so many gave their lives
to keep, protect and save
All thrown away

I have a nasty habit
I start to get so angry
at those who wish to see our sad demise
Is it because I love the freedom
my home has given me
The days always brought solace
because there wasn't such insanity
Such a peaceful frame of mind
to know such liberty
A guarantee by God to be free
Will we ever know those days again?

Some very good songwriting John! I think your words are perfectly written and will resonate with many. They do for me. Great music and vocals...the "Queen" like harmonies on the lines "All thrown away" and "Will we ever know those days again" are gorgeous. Nicely done!

Well crafted song, John. Insightful, thought-provoking lyrics, and intriguing melody. Love the piano playing and the string arrangement. Well done!
There are only three kinds of drummers. Those who can count, and those who can't.

You write great songs, John; lovely chord progressions, cool piano work, great vocals and excellent production. The lyrics here too are very relatable. Brilliant stuff.

Very timely song and well done! Loved the harmonies and string builds. Don't think it was too political either, just truth!

Hey, Ferrell, Redler, Frank, Ray, Hardwick & Bruno-Thanks so much for not only listening but reassuring me that it is OK to present this. Six people so far and nobody challanged me for posting a political song or my feelings.
