I chose this name because a butterfly, before it can fly, comes from a death like state in the chrysalis and before that it crawls on its belly carrying out its  seemingly pathetic life.....  this piece of music or noise (noise is defined as unwanted sound), whichever you prefer came from near a trash can to a resurrection from the dead.... I had some neat sounds that I was recording on my guitar, some effects I found on the ME-25.  I started listening to the whole thing after adding bass and drums, nearly trashed the whole thing... and to be very honest i was so disgusted at it that I essentially didn't even want to look at any of my instruments or recording stuff....ever felt like that?
Anyway, this was 2 seperate recordings that I hashed together and it is not at all perfect but there are great moments in hear and some really wonderful sounds... and I learned something about building a big sound off just one chord...strumming there.... kind of like the who at times... so this could use a lot more, or alot less...and I think I am one step closer to something really big.... this is a bit like my old golf game...make stunning shots and be 3under after 6 holes then shoot a 10 on a par 3!
the last time i ever played golf (2006) I walked off the course after the first hole and nearly threw my clubs in the river....lol...stuff gets in my head....that is not quite what happened here but it was sort of like it....

2 guitars mostly ( a hint of 4 at times)
2 bass guitar tracks with guitar effects on one...very effected...
nitro alesis drums which because of Andy R. 64 and a number of others i have learned to eq the low frequencies where you can hear the kick and the bass together...(get rid of everything below 125 hz on the guitars and below about 65 hz on the bass and boost the 50 hz on the kick)
recorded on BR1600...mixed on bandlab daw and mastered with Landr.

I think this sounded great. I played it through one and then I grabbed my electric guitar and tried to solo over it. It's a great track and it suggested a lot of melodic jumping off points. It is melodic and has enough movement and development and pace changes, to keep it interesting, but a better guitarist than me might be able to shred melodically and just burst out over top of this here and there, and you'd end up with some eight minute monster song by Rush or Toto.

Its really good!

The guitar sound is fantastic, I wish it was longer and some big drum breaks.

Oh we've all been there, wanting to chuck it all away and give up! Sometimes you need to leave stuff quite a while and then come back to it. I really like the style of this one, it's a bit proggy but also quite doomy (that fourth chord in the sequence gives it a nice eerie edge) I really like that style of music and I think this worked quite well. Being brutally honest I preferred the second part to the first, as this feels more resolved, but there's a nice off-kilter feel to the first part. I really like the huge guitar sounds (although you can be more extreme with the panning to get an even more massive sound) and the bass and the drums sound fantastic. I really like the way they fit together and they sound great, you have picked up those mixing tips well. The next trick to learn is to add a distorted copy of the bass track (with most of the bass cut off) and then gently mix that in with the normal track to add a nice bit of bite. This is a popular trick with many rock/metal producers.

I really enjoyed this, glad you saved this and came back to it.

Digging that bassline in the first part, but I agree with Nigel, this really goes places in part 2: that 'dark' chord you throw into the fairly straightforward rock progression really appeals to me. Really cool stuff, and definitely worth keeping!

Nice instrumental song! Excellent job with each instrument and everything has been put well together. Top class production, too!

You've put this instrumental together very nicely Stephen. Progressive rock is not exactly my cup of tea but I like this one with those dark 'evil' chord progressions. Some cool bass guitar work going on in the first section but my favourite part is the second bit where it seems to settle down rhythmically. You've mixed the piece very well and it's good you did not delete it.

first off, thanks to you all for taking the time to listen and comment...and  I normally don't respond like this but since it is so new on here I think it's ok.... I totally agree that I love the second part better... and the transition at 2:00 from that crazy bass to the drums and guitar I frankly cannot believe I actually pulled this off...it was kind of totally unplanned... so that alone was reason enough for me to keep the stuff...
I suppose that my greatest achievement on here is actually drumming...its been a life long dream that I now believe enough i deserved to have and do...and actually had the resources to achieve and whether or not I ever become the next Bonham doesn't matter...it thrills me that I can do it a bit...and I get to bang away listening to all your stuff too...
and btw....please feel free to comment honestly...what you really think...most of the time I am going to agree anyway because I already know because my ability to hear and discern good from bad is way more highly developed than my actual playing and recording, engineering ability (which has come from devout disciple of music for all my 61 years)....and I may not be able to do anything about it right now....but over time I will get better... Rock on!

I finally got to listen to this instrumental Stephan and it has some excellent, epic passages. The first half is not as tight rhythmically as the second half but it got me to thinking "where is this going?" and then bam the second half hit and the whole thing came into focus. Cool guitar work!

Love them chords and the guitar sounds really cool , the break builds tension and the bang right into the next chord sequence , drums have a great sound to them , great instrumental and composition, cracking guitar and drum work
