A couple old and grey
Sitting on an old park bench
Our eyes don't see, ears don't hear,
Legs don't run and our fists don't clench
Funny to see us now
We once were young; you would not think how
We lived through all the tears
To the winter of our years

A couple old and grey
Companions such a long time
Shared every meal, shared every deal
Shared every nickel, every dime
Faced every fight every day and night
Shared every wrong shared every right
Shared all the hopes and fears
To the winter of our years.

I'll meet you on the corner
I'll meet you on the 9 o clock news
We'll go to heaven hand in hand
They can say about us what they choose

Hey young man don't look at us so
One day soon in peace we rest
Our innings are good done all we could
We've paid our dues and done our best
We have to get our story straight
When we get up to St. Peter's gate
We'll save old Pete a couple of beers
In the winter of our years

To say nicely done seems far too understated - it's very lovely!

Do you know "I'll follow you into the dark by Death Cab for Cutie"? It reminded me a bit of that.

Or Tea & Toast by Lucy Spraggan.

Another touching song and lyric Ray. It hits closer to home today than it did yesterday. Your guitar lead tone and phrasing have a hint of Mark Knopfler and that is real nice. A very powerful and thought provoking song!

Life is not about the number of Breathes you take, it is the amount of times your breathe is taken away

This is just plain beautiful. The sound is so full, the guitar and piano work convey feeling, and the vocals are perfect for the thoughtful lyric.

Wow.

Very classy indeed. So many elements to enjoy and admire. The arrangement is flawless, and I especially love the pedal steel. But that chord change going into 'I'll meet you on the corner...' is superb. Top songcrafting.

Touching song this, and quite sobering to some of us.  Classy production - and the steel guitar is sublime.

I will listen to this again.
