So this one was mostly about learning Cubase's vocal harmonizer and chord track features, thus the freaky lyrics and the freaky instrumentation.   I guess this is my weird side at work also.   Chord track basically in Cubase can generate the vocal harmonies. I'm a huge fan of Stephen King, and I love the confluence of mystical and scientific themes in his work, and I guess this song has some of both of those things in it.

ALONE IN THE UNIVERSE
---------------------------

THERE ARE ALIENS
LIVING INSIDE MY SKULL
IF I PAY SOMEONE ENOUGH MONEY
THEY'LL LET THEM OUT
THEY'LL LET THEM OUT
THEY'LL LET THEM OUT

THERE ARE ALIENS LIVING INSIDE MY SKULL
IF I TAKE A PILL THEY'LL GO AWAY
I DON'T WANT THEM TO GO AWAY
I DON'T WANNA BE ALONE IN THE UNIVERSE
I DON'T WANNA BE ALONE IN THE UNIVERSE TONIGHT
I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND
AND IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND
THAT'S ALLRIGHT
I DIDN'T EXPECT YOU TO.

NOV 17 UPDATE: Second verse added.

Here's what the chord track thingy in Cubase looks like:

very cool... and I like the vocal harmonizer...most groups now are using vocal augmentation/correction....whatever you want to call it...so I would suppose that is sort of alien... I liked it...just it got over too quick for me....

I do gotta work on  the length thing.   This could use another verse or two. (Update: Nov 17: Added a second verse!)

Very alien for sure - that harmonizer really makes it.

I see you have a BR-600 also.  Ever get the "pitch correction" function to sound like that or like those autotune effects?  Never got mine to do much of anything - even on the "machine" setting.... :(

A cool sound you have here with the chord track thingy. It does sound like something from outer or inner space. Different but different is good!

It's astonishing what these DAW's can do these days and we have the potential to create ... well anything that our imagination allows. Cubase has always been one of the front runners in advanced editing and Steinberg have certainly presented some great innovations with their flagship. A couple of decades or so ago it was unthinkable that you could sing a vocal line and create realistic sounding harmonies from that one track, let alone pitch correction.

A fine example here and the more you play around with this feature the more fun you will have with it.

There is a really cool bunch of cosm effects on my BR600 including a pretty neat darth vader vocal sound.    That could work for some kind of evil robot part in a song.

In order for my BR600 to have useable vocal tuning it would need to have some parameters that aren't on there. I'd want to tell it "use the notes from the F major scale" and then have some adjustable percentages to leave in a certain amount of natural vocal character, and the one in the BR600 is basically not useable, if your end result is to have your vocals sounding actually nice.

This track (done on cubase) though wasn't aiming at any of the natural vocal sounds you can get with Cubase Pro plus its VariAudio tech, it was going full on robot/alien/weirdo.

Thanks for the info on the BR600.  Makes more sense now about its vocal "autotune" limitations. Other vocal effects are very cool for sure.  8)

Weird = more good in my book. Really liked the laid back atmospheric feeling of this with some cool sounds going on in the soundscape. I really enjoy both creating and listening to this kind of thing, and I enjoyed this a lot.

There are some good effects in the BR. I used the Darth Vader-y voice on a track I posted a little while ago called "In the Court of the Dragon" and it worked really well. There's a lot of technology in these boxes.....
