This was an attempt at a stream of consciousness songwriting thing. Just make a thing with my synths, and then say, Okay, now I'm singing these lyrics.  Live. Just see what happens. So this did.

Lyrics:

(Audible Sigh)
Are we having fun yet?
Too much to drink
No time
Except to think

What comes next?
What's gone forever?
When do we say yes?
If not now then never.
If not now then never.
If not now then when?

There's only so many notes on my guitar
Only so many keys to sing a song.... in.
Gotta learn 'em all.

Guess 2020's been a hell of a year.
What can I say?
I'm still here.

Remember when Music was a Thing?
I could go downtown in Toronto and see a band play...
Course I used to complain that the band started at 11 PM.
Now I'd be happy to start a concert at 11 PM.
Kind of sick of everything in my life being moved to Zoom.
Kind of sick of it
But at least I didn't get sick.
At least not yet.
At least not yet...

Production notes:
Cubase 10
Synths/VST are Pigments and Halion6 (full edition) - The drums are a preset from Halion.
Voltage Modular by Cherry Audio (for the wind noise bits)
Liberal use of RAUM reverb by Native Instruments.
Vocals in a single take through a Shure SM58 (originally I said in here it was an SM57), the only decent mic I own.

way cool... my favorite part is the end where it goes, "at least not yet" repeats...very cool... and this thing goes really low because I am listening on my 7 foot tri amped wall of speakers and the bass is thundering....and if you go back and watch old videos, even recording, lots of people used SM-57s....including Steve Walsh from Kansas, and John Wetton from Asia... amongst many others... personally I would rather use a 57 to mic an instrument and sing through a 58 but if that is what you have that will work...lately I have been singing either trhough my Sennheister corded mic (not a really expensive one about 130 bucks) or my mics built onto the Zoom R24 recording deck.... my studio condenser mic is just too sensitive for me and I can't get enough output off it...so I don't use it anymore....

Correction. This is a SHURE SM58.

The best low end response I have available to me for monitoring/mixing is my Sennheinser HD650 cans.
As my 8" reference monitors are not very great at thundering bass.

I may give my own track a listen through my ancient retro stereo speakers, as at least those have 14" woofers. My low end mixing skills are pretty weak and I think this track could use better EQ by better ears than mine.

I bought a crappy phantom powered condensor mic from Amazon, I think it's a Neewer NW-700 condensor and it sounds like trash.  The SM58 was a big upgrade.

Kind of says it all, doesn't it. These are the thoughts going through the minds of many of us. Great to hear it unfiltered and unrefined.
There are only three kinds of drummers. Those who can count, and those who can't.

Love it. Very atmospheric and doomy synths (the kind of thing I love) and the stream of consciousness lyrics works well. Something I could never do, I admire this approach a lot. Very nice work.

I like the atmosphere and the free style of the lyric delivery.  It's different and I can relate with everything and thoughts you're conveying.  It has been a hell of a year.  Let's hope next year will be better, but I'm not too sure it will be.

I've resisted writing music about Covid and the implications of it.  I prefer to use my creativity to escape and try to forget about it.  Not saying there's anything wrong with what you're doing, if that's what helps you to cope. Everybody's different. Rock on! ;)

Yes, I like the atmosphere. Very dark atmosphere and quite strange too. Kind of futuristic, dark sci-fi feel. That one take vocal is cool.

Yeah 2020 has been a bit of a bummer to say the least. You've captured the darkness of the year perfectly. I'm 72 next month and retired but I'm so sorry for the working musician who has had his living taken away from him. Good song.     Willie
