Any Cubase users on this forum?

I'm a Cubase Pro 10 user, which is a pretty expensive fancy DAW for a home hobbyist like myself, but I appreciate it's massive power and capabilities.

Pitch correction.  Arrangements. Notation (piano sheet music).  You name it. It does everything.

Anyone else around here using Cubase?

These days I mostly run it on my PCs as my PCs have more power but I've also had good luck running Cubase on a Mac.

Hi Warren and welcome to the site.

I was an avid user of Cubase for about 30 years, beginning with its inception back in the late 1980's on something called an Atari ST 1040. (good old, bad old days) Since then I have travelled relentlessly through all the upgrades and most recently on my iMac. However, when I updated my Mac earlier this year to the latest platform I realised my current Cubase program would not work so I had to upgrade to version 10. That's when I hit the brick wall of the pricing issue which was gonna cost me an arm & a leg so for the first time ever I decided to migrate to another DAW - namely Logic Pro X which is a Mac-specific program. After a bit of a learning curve getting used to the different interface I can now say that I am happy with Logic and find it contains most of the Cubase features yet is less than half the price.

To be honest there are a lot of features in both Cubase and Logic that I would probably never use, especially these days just being a hobbyist like yourself but if anyone is looking for a reasonably priced DAW and own a Mac I can safely recommend Logic.

Cheers,

Like Ray i first used Cubase on an old atari. i still have Cubase5 on my windows laptop. i have a stand alone boss BR800 recorder but since i got my Macbook i pretty much do everything on Garageband on the macbook. That pretty much does everything i need for a few quid(bucks). i do fancy getting Logic pro X but like i say Garageband suits my needs and i pretty much now how to use it. Going back to cubase i probably was only able to use about 5% of it's capabilities and it was a pain in the ass setting it up every time i plugged something different into the PC. I loved and still do my MicroBR cos it was so easy to set up and use, equally my br800. however macbook and garageband gives me best of both worlds, Though i still tend to record vocals using my MicroBR as it is so easy to record vocals with. Recently started using a USB mic with MacBook and getting better results now am learning how to tweak effects to get vocals  the way i want. Still learning, but i believe you don't stop learning till the day you die. Hoping santa will get me one of these for crimbo https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/product/190604344506008--focusrite-scarlett-2i2-3rd-gen so i see another learning curve approaching  ;D

Excellent audio card, James, I have it in one of my PCs. No learning curve at all, since it's just a sound card.

Back in the day when the Atari ST was a really great MIDI rig, my uncle had one, and I thought it was a really cool machine.

At the time, I was 13 and I owned a Commodore 64. I could not afford an Atari ST or an Amiga, or a Mac, or any of the 16 bit machines of that era that really opened the Midi/Music-computer thing up.

One of my everlasting regrets is that while I really loved the Yamaha DX7 back in the day, I never bought one back then. I finally got a real 80s FM synth (Yamaha DX7-2-D) only a couple years back and I really enjoy it.

I think one of those plus a Midi interface and an Atari ST and perhaps the whole trajectory of my life would have been different. Who knows.  Anyways, I'm a computer nerd already, so the combination of DAW and PC, and music gear was always going to be my Crack.
