I was watching a CBS news story about a Venezuelan journalist who fled her country with her two year old son and is seeking asylum in the U.S., and was inspired to write this song about all those in Central and South America seeking asylum from violence and persecution.  I thought of recording just a simple acoustic folk/harmony song along the lines of Peter Paul & Mary's "El Salvador, but once the three of us got to laying down tracks, it took a different turn (musically).  Needed one last song to add to our (Currier Square) new CD we plan to release, and this was it.

Refugee Road     words & music: Vance Grazio     ©2020   tuning     DADGAD  capo 2

From Chavez to Maduro, I've witnessed blood in the streets,
Soon they'll be coming after mine
Because of things I believe in, threats to voices of truth
I must flee to save my life

Piling into the freight cars, by way of truck and on foot
Asylum seekers, heading north
Crawl through trails in the jungles, fording rivers chin high
In search of my life, before I die

Chorus:
 Traveling the refugee road
 Thousands of miles from home
 Please take me in

Tired, thirsty and hungry, wilting in tropical heat
Fractured souls, bleeding feet

 Repeat chorus

3,000 miles behind me, one last border to cross
Will I be saved, will I be lost?
I'm just one face among thousands, guided by faith in God's plan
Hear my story, take my hand

Traveling the refugee road
I can never go home
So please take me in
"Play because you love it. Don't worry about if it will ever make any money, just understand that playing is an end in itself, and you play music, it will make your life better. And, don't worry about being a star, don't worry about making money, worry about nothing, just sit down with your guitar and let it speak to you and that will make your life better. It will bring beauty into your life. It's a great thing to do."     ---- David Crosby

Very professionally done production. Clean and pure. Lead tones and vocal harmony pads top it off! Great song all around!

Those things we take for granted - when we're young and immature - will surely return to haunt us when we're old and insecure

You made good use of the DADGAD tuning. A  good sound and chord progression that fits the lyric perfectly. The building of the vocal with the layering of the harmonies promotes the story line well. The drums are placed tastefully in the song and creates a cool ebb and tide. Nicely done!

Oh yeah. So much to like with this song. First of all, a lovely warm mix with just the right levels panned perfectly. Secondly, I use that same guitar tuning quite a lot on some of my folky kinda stuff and it works so well here. Thirdly, great harmony performed on this track, nicely layered and pitched. All that before I get to the subject matter which is excellently told and of course contemporary. Great job, fellers; well done.
