Neither. Buy a PC without an operating system and save $100. Then download and install ubuntu. It's better than XP and Win7, and it's FREE!! I've been using ubuntu for over a year and I'll never go back to any version of Windows.

Okay, so Im just getting around to unloading this performance off my memory cards onto a buddy's computer...I copied and pasted the BRO files onto his computer, but hes not familiar with BRO files and he began to doubt he had anything that would read them, so I suggested Audacity thinking it would be able to read it...but so far nothing.

Do I need the WAV converter? Or what?
Im kinda lost at this point...and really wanting to free up the space.

64Guitars

Yes, you need the BR Wave Converter. The BR's files are stored in a proprietary format, so you won't be able to do anything with them until you convert them to WAV format. But you should also keep the original files and folders on your computer so that you can restore them to a memory card at a later date for editing, remixing, etc.

Thanks for all the help 64, I was able to go over a buddy's house last night and use the WAV converter to unload all of my memory cards.

NOW the same band has a gig for "the 4th" and were gonna record it again...learning(or trying to learn) from my last experience, I found that using the lowest quality setting I was able to record bout 45 minutes straight until the card was "full"...this left me no room to master the stereo tracks to MP3 onboard.
So my question is:
How long can I record and still have room to master it to MP3?

My assumption is that Id need to record only 20 minutes if I intend on doing so onboard.

BTW, this time around there are 2 MBRs recording(and 6 memory cards)...sadly only one "sony mic".

No need to wait to try ubuntu. Just download and burn the CD Image, then boot your computer from the CD. It will run entirely off the CD and your computer's RAM, so nothing is installed on your hard drive. When you're done checking it out, eject the CD, reboot, and you're back in Windows, exactly the way it was before you tried ubuntu. Nothing is changed.

Download ubuntu here:

http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

If you need help burning the CD, see this page.

Newer computers usually have a startup option to boot from a CD. For older computers that lack this feature, see this page:

:-\
I suppose I could just record 20 minutes of stereo dead air and find out for myself.
See you in 25.

[edit]The long version gives me 48:19 to record in stereo...so Im thinking of stopping before 24 minutes is up...and then find out what happens...Im at work, Ive got time to kill *shrug*

An initialized 1GB memory card has room for a stereo recording of about 250 minutes in HiFi(MT2) or about 377 minutes in LONG(LV2). If you want to leave room for mastering, you should probably divide that time in half. So about 2 hours in HiFi(MT2) or 3 hours in LONG(LV2). I don't know why you only got 45 minutes. Did you use a smaller memory card? Or did the card have other songs or MP3s on it?

By the way, if you use MP3 mode, you can record directly to MP3 up to 2,081 minutes (over 34 hours). See pages 97/98, and 129 of the Micro BR manual, 3rd edition.

For some reason I dont get the same results...the cards have been initialized, I just dumped everything, clean 1G card...wait...its the OEM card, which now looking at one is only 128m...but I do have 3 other 1G cards as well as another OEM.
Ive been guaging time off these smaller cards...Im a dumbass, as stated in the past, sometimes the simple answer escapes me.

Lemme ask a couple of questions bout MP3 mode...Ive stored the settings from this bands last gig at the same venue in the Master Tool Kit...would I be able to record(in MP3 mode) using these effects/settings?

BTW, once again...thanks 1000x for your last reply!

You can't master in MP3 mode. You'd have to import the MP3 into the multitrack side to master it. If you need mastering, you'd be better off recording in multitrack mode in the first place. I'd think that 2 or 3 hours should be enough. If not, you could always bring a couple of spare cards and swap them after a couple of hours of recording.
