Tail Lights & License Plates
written & performed by Hook
It's a feeling of long ago
usually feels pretty good
kinda feels like home
Christmas 3 or 4 years ago
was the last time I remember
feeling whole

Now I hide in the shadows
follow from a distance behind
I found my place
tail lights and license plates

That winter of the feminist
That was the you
That liked me the best
Now I just have memories
Such fragile little things

I remember how it just seemed to come
so easy to you
A passion burning bright
A dream that you could see

Family binds & social ties
Knots so tight they can't untie
So you just cut the mess away
& thread another lace

The lyrics are dark but the tune is light.
They almost fight one another for superiority.
The instrumentation is inspiring and the lyrics paint
a picture to me of stuck in traffic at night with the writer
mullin over memories and story's of his life.
A very elvis Costello vibe from the vocal.
Nice one.

   All that I need
Is just a piece of paper
To say a few lines
Make up my mind
So she can read it later
When I'm gone

I like the emotional lyrical topic.  I like the flute part.  I'm not sure the various percussion sounds work here.    I'm wishing the bass line was mixed a bit louder, and less varied percussion, maybe a very tiny amount of brushed drums.

If you like Tom Waits as much as me, then you'll know I like it when I say it has a Tom Waits aspect to it, which is I think what I like best. There's something sad, and something like an overheard melody from a radio playing at the neighbor's house next door to it.  The flute is great.
